Simone de Beauvoir - A conti fatti

Marco Missiroli - Atti osceni in luogo privato
Erri DeLuca - La parola contraria
Nancy Mitford - Inseguendo l'amore
Ken Follett - I pilastri della terra

Mitch Albom - I miei martedì col professore
Mitch Winehouse - Amy, mia figlia (Ebook)
Arto Paasilinna - Prigionieri del paradiso
James Joyce - Ulisse
Jane Shemilt - Una famiglia quasi perfetta (Ebook)

Mitch Albom - I miei martedì col professore
Helene Hanff - 84, Charing Cross Road
Milena Milani - Io donna e gli altri
Tom Wolfe - Il falò delle vanità
Ian McEwan - Lettera a Berlino
Susanna Agnelli - Vestivamo alla marinara
Ernest Hemingway - Addio alle armi
Anna Quindlen - One true thing

Agatha Christie - Se morisse mio marito

Marco Missiroli - Atti osceni in luogo privato

Mitch Winehouse - Amy, mia figlia

Bice e Carla Biagi - Casa Biagi

Grazie Richard!

Just like a lot of children in Italy, I have been raised as Catholic. I've been baptized, then the first communion and the confirmation. After all that, always just like a lot of girls and boys, I stopped to attend services because it wasn't more a duty. But in all these years when I barely thought about it, I appreciated churches more for their artistic beauty than for their "real purpose" and attended just for weddings and funerals. And still, I considered myself a devotee. But in this last time, when the contradictions of religion, every religion, leap out and are exposed at the broad daylight, or at least my light, that residual collapses too. Do we really need religion? Explanations about what we are, why we live, are given exhaustively by the science. And I don't need a god to give a meaning at my life. And neither to act like the respectable person I am already. And, how much wars and blood the world would be spared, without that perfect pretext that is the religious difference? Why those books written more than 2000 years ago by people living in a completely different world and with a completely different morality, have to be foundation of my thinking in the 21st century? Why is it wrong questioning it, and is it good that
blind and unconditioned faith?
This book is enlightening. Richard Dawkins talks about the "dogmas", analyzes and demonstrates their inconsistency, their illusion. And it does it without controversies, with precise scientific data, with irony. If I have to follow something, I want to follow this lifestyle.
I want to be that happy, balanced, moral and intellectually fulfilled atheist.
Thank you Richard!

The God Delusion

Sometimes, immmersed in his books, there would come to him the awareness of all that he did not know, of all that he had not read; and the serenity for which he labored was shattered as he realized the little time he had in life to read so much, to learn what he had to know.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.

Di Donna Tartt avevo già letto Il Cardellino. Bellissimo.

By Donna Tartt I've already read "The Goldfinch". Beautiful. But this one, this "The secret history", this is a masterpiece. Stunning. I've finished it just one minute ago, and as soon as I turned the last page I've been gathered by a scary thought: "It's over." I won't read anymore about Richard, Henry, Bunny, Francis, the twins Charles and Camilla. I won't know anything new about them."
The beauty of this book is emotionally devastating. The writing, the plot, the characters. Perfect.
The story is set in Vermont, at the Hampden College. Richard, the story's narrator, is admitted to the exclusive Ancient Greek course, held by the professor Julian Morrow. So he joins in with the elite of students, rich descendants of very wealthy families, a bond so strong to create a closed circle, lives hanging in balance between extreme rationality and madness.
A cultured book, that just a person of learning can write, full of cross references to Greek and Roman culture, to Classic literature.
Extreme perfection.
