Tipica lettura da periodo natalizio!! A parte gli scherzi, iniziato la notte della vigilia e finito a Natale, è stato una lettura leggera, intelligente e molto interessante!
Il libro è una raccolta di settantadue storie brevissime di terrore, alcune in forma di racconto, altre in forma di fumetto. Alcuni degli autori sono super famosi, come Neil Gaiman, Joyce Carol Oates e Margaret Atwood. Come è fisiologico che sia quando si tratta di un così alto numero di storie tutte diverse, alcune sono molto più "basic", altre davvero di ottimo livello. Ho davvero apprezzato praticamente tutte quelle in forma di fumetto, quella di Jon Klassen "La leggenda di Alexandra e Rose", assolutamente la mia preferita, perfetta!
Come prima lettura per chi potrebbe apprezzare il genere, è perfetta, ma è comunque una lettura piacevole anche per chi, invece, quel genere lo conosce bene.

Typical book for Christmas! All jokes aside, started on Christmas Eve and finished at Christmas, it was a light, intelligent and very interesting read!
The book is a collection of seventy-two very short stories of terror, some in short story form, others in comic form. Some of the authors are super famous, like Neil Gaiman, Joyce Carol Oates and Margaret Atwood. As it is physiological when it comes to such a large number of different stories, some are much more "basic", others really excellent. I really enjoyed pretty much all the comics, Jon Klassen's "The Legend of Alexandra and Rose", absolutely my favorite, perfect!
As a first reading for those who might appreciate the genre, it is perfect, but it is a nice reading even for those who, on the other hand, know that genre well.

Lo spleen sarebbe la tristezza meditativa, la malinconia, ed in questa accezione la parola è usata dal poeta decadentista Charles Baudelaire.
Questa raccolta di piccole poesie in prosa, di racconti brevissimi, racconta l'anima di Parigi, il suo lato più vero, che racconti amori tragici o felici, come vivere la vita, borghesia e quartieri bassi, l'eleganza e la volgarità, le donne (e ricordiamo che Baudelaire ovviamente parla di una Parigi tardo ottocentesca, con una morale e una divisione tra i generi molto diversa rispetto all'attuale) e gli uomini di Parigi.
Alcuni pezzi sembrano facili e leggeri, ma come con la poesia è bene stare attenti alle singole parole, per non perderne il senso e anche la bellezza.
Il mio preferito è il XXXIII, "Ubriacatevi", un inno all'essere sempre appassionati di qualcosa, al farsi travolgere, al vivere la vita fino in fondo, "di vino, di poesia, di virtù, a vostro piacimento. Ma ubriacatevi!" Decisamente il mio preferito e probabilmente anche l'unico poema in prosa che mi abbia conquistata.
Insomma, davvero molto bello, da leggere a piccoli pezzi, gustandone la bellezza e cercando di comprendere appieno il mondo in cui sono stati scritti e la persona da cui sono stati scritti.

The spleen is the meditative sadness, melancholy, and in this meaning the word is used by the decadent poet Charles Baudelaire.
This collection of small prose poems, of very short stories, tells the soul of Paris, its truest side, whether it tells tragic or happy loves, how to live life, bourgeoisie and lower neighborhoods, elegance and vulgarity, women (and we remember that Baudelaire obviously speaks of a late nineteenth-century Paris, with a very different morality and division between genders than the current one) and the men of Paris.
Some pieces seem easy and light, but as with poetry it is good to pay attention to the single words, so as not to lose their meaning and also their beauty.
My favorite is XXXIII, "Be drunk", a hymn to always being passionate about something, to be overwhelmed, to live life to the full, "of wine, of poetry, of virtue, as you wish. Be drunk!" Definitely my favourite and probably the only prose poem that has won me over.
In short, very nice, to read in small pieces, enjoying the beauty and trying to fully understand the world in which they were written and the person by whom they were written.

L'unico motivo per cui ci ho messo più di un mese a leggere questo libro, è perché non volevo che tutti i pensieri singoli di Saramago finissero nel calderone di una lettura troppo veloce. Ecco perché ho voluto leggerne al massimo un paio alla volta, per darmi modo di assimilare ogni pensiero sulle tantissime tematiche di cui lo scrittore portoghese parla. Critiche a Berlusconi, scrittori e giornalisti, la violenza sulle donne, la religione, i suoi libri e ovviamente la politica...
Per ognuno di questi temi e per delle vicende in particolare, Saramago riesce sempre, in paragrafi abbastanza corti, a esprimere il suo punto di vista sempre prezioso e, per me in molti casi, a farci conoscere personaggi e fatti lontani dalla nostra realtà ma interessanti.
Ovviamente, per noi italiani la critica spietata a Berlusconi non può non essere notata... devo ammettere che avere uno come Saramago che parla di me sarebbe un incredibile onore, in questo caso decisamente non in bene!
Quando finisce un libro è sempre triste ma in questo caso è doppiamente triste perché sai il motivo del perché Saramago non è andato avanti a scrivere altre pagine del Quaderno e non ne scriverà altri...
Per fortuna, mi mancano ancora molti suoi romanzi da leggere, posso già dire che saranno pagine magnifiche.

The only reason why it took me more than a month to read this book is because I didn't want all of Saramago's individual thoughts to end up in the cauldron because a too quick reading. That's why I wanted to read a couple of them at a time, to give myself the opportunity to assimilate every thought on the many issues the Portuguese writer talks about. Criticism of Berlusconi, writers and journalists, violence against women, religion, his books and of course politics...
For each of these themes and for some events in particular, Saramago always manages, in fairly short paragraphs, to express his always precious point of view and, for me in many cases, to introduce us to characters and facts far from our reality but interesting.
Obviously, for us Italians the ruthless criticism of Berlusconi cannot fail to be noticed... I must admit that having someone like Saramago talking about me would be an incredible honor, in this case definitely not for good!
When a book ends it is always sad but in this case it is sadder because you know the reason why Saramago didn't go on in writing more pages of the Notebook and will not write more...
Fortunately, I still lack many novels by him to read, I can already say that they will be magnificent pages.
