Lo avevo in lista da un bel po' di tempo, ma complice il mio compleanno e un buono da spendere in libreria, mi sono finalmente decisa a comprarlo e, durante la festività di Ognissanti, deciso di leggerlo.
L'ho divorato in una sera e mi mangio le mani all'idea di non averlo fatto prima!
Mo è nat* a Deneb, pianeta lontano, e quando ha circa nove anni i genitori decidono di fargli provare una sorta di scambio culturale, vivere sulla Terra per circa dieci anni. Il problema scatenante di tutto è che nè Mo nè i suoi genitori sanno sè è maschio o femmina. A Deneb, infatti, finchè non diventano adulti, sono tutti uguali e solo facendo una complicata e abbastanza inutile analisi si potrebbe sapere prima del tempo. Per Mo e per i suoi genitori non è un problema, per i terrestri e i signori Olivieri sì! Da qui parte il racconto dell'esperienza terrestre di Mo, delle differenze che incontra quando passa del tempo come maschio e come femmina, di quali siano gli stereotipi più forti che plasmano quotidianamente e profondamente le vite dei bamini.
Il libro è davvero interessante, le scene presentate reali e raccontate con precisione, garbo e spirito. Non spoilero ovviamente il finale, ma vi posso assicurare che è il finale perfetto per il libro, assolutamente non banale, un finale in cui la Pitzorno carica tanta forza e libertà.
E io che ho finito la lettura nemmeno venti minuti fa, sono inebriata, piena di energia, piena di voglia di essere sempre "alla pari".
Grazie Signora Pitzorno per questo libro che mi auguro diventi lettura obbligata in tutte le scuole e presenza obbligata in tutte le biblioteche per ragazz*.

I had it on the list for quite some time, but thanks to my birthday and a voucher to spend in the bookshop, I finally decided to buy it and, during the All Saints' Day, decided to read it.
I devoured it in one evening and kick myself at the idea of not having done it before!
Mo is born to Deneb, a distant planet, and when it is about nine, its parents decide to let it try a sort of cultural exchange, living on Earth for about ten years. The triggering problem is that neither Mo nor its parents know if Mo is male or female. At Deneb, in fact, as long as they don't become adults, they are all the same and only by doing a complicated and quite useless analysis one could know ahead of time. For Mo and its parents this is not a problem, for the earthlings and the Olivieri's family, it is! From here the story of Mo's terrestrial experience, of the differences it encounters when spends time as male and as female, of which are the strongest stereotypes that shape the lives of the children daily and deeply.
The book is really interesting, the scenes are real and told with precision, grace and spirit. Of course, I don't spoil the ending, but I can assure you that it's the perfect ending for this absolutely non-trivial book, a finale in which the Pitzorno loads so much strength and freedom.
And I, who have finished the reading not even twenty minutes ago, I am inebriated, full of energy, full of desire to always be "equal".
Thank you, Ms. Pitzorno for this book, which I hope will become a must-read in all schools and a mandatory presence in libraries for children.
