Sono una grande appassionata della famiglia reale inglese, e quindi mi interessa leggere tutto quello che li riguarda. Wallis Simpson, ovviamente, è una delle figure più interessanti, per il ruolo che ha avuto in quello che probabilmente è il fatto che ha avuto maggior impatto a livello familiare e storico. Ed ecco perchè ho comprato questo libro, perchè ero curiosa di sapere cosa fosse avvenuto nella sua vita negli ultimi anni. E il libro parla di questo, in un certo senso.
Perchè in realtà è più la storia di Maitre Blum, il legale della Duchessa, che ebbe il pieno controllo della sua vita in questa fase. Niente e nessuno poteva arrivare a Wallis senza che la Blum lo sapesse. E le notizie che venivano da lei erano spesse distorte e abbellite. Wallis Simpson era scomparsa, nessuno la poteva più incontrare o vedere, se non i suoi dottori e le sue infermiere. Eppure, stando alle parole del suo legale, Wallis era in piena forma e sempre bellissima. Nonchè, assolutamente, dignitosa.
Il libro è interessante per sapere di più su una figura così predominante, ma di Wallis e dei suoi ultimi anni non si sa niente di nuovo. La scrittrice su di lei riesce solo a raccogliere qualche notizia dalle vecchie amiche, e fare un riepilogo della sua vita prima e con Edoardo VIII.
Insomma, sicuramente si parla della Royal Family. Ma del vero soggetto del libro, a cui è dedicato il titolo e la copertina, non si sa niente di nuovo. Era forse più preciso intitolarlo "Il Legale della Duchessa".
Insomma, mi aspettavo altro. E' stata comunque una lettura godibile.

This book was a disappointment, and together it was not. I'll explain it better.
I'm a big fan of the English royal family, so I'm interested in reading everything about them. Wallis Simpson, of course, is one of the most interesting figures, for the role she has played in what is probably the fact that has had the greatest impact on family and historical level. And that's why I bought this book, because I was curious to know what had happened in her life in her last years. And the book talks about this, kind of.
Because in reality it is more the story of Maitre Blum, the Duchess's lawyer, who had full control of her life at this stage. Nothing and nobody could get to Wallis without Blum knowing it. And the news that came from her was often distorted and embellished. Wallis Simpson had disappeared, no one could meet her or see her, except her doctors and nurses. Yet, according to the words of her lawyer, Wallis was in fine shape and always beautiful. As well as absolutely dignified.
The book is interesting to know more about such a predominant figure, but there is nothing new about Wallis and her last years. The writer manages to gather just some news about her from old friends, and make a summary of her life before and with Edward VIII.
In short, surely it talks about the Royal Family. But of the true subject of the book, to which the title and the cover is dedicated, nothing new is known. It was perhaps more precise to call it "The Duchess's Lawyer".
In short, I expected more. It was however an enjoyable reading.
