In questo romanzo gli intellettuali vengono presi di mira, iniziando con l'assassinio di Giovanni Prospero, professore, ucciso perchè durante uno show tv aveva citato Spinoza. Per "difenderli" il ministro dell'Interno ha questa bella idea di creare una lista di intellettuali, radical chic. Verranno controllate le loro dichiarazioni, le loro librerie, i loro armadi pieni di maglioni di cachemire e giacche con le toppe. Sempre per evitare nuovi incidenti, parte una Regolarizzazione per la Semplificazione della Lingua: basta congiuntivi, basta parole difficili, basta intellettualismi. A vegliare che vengano rispettate le regole, ci pensano le autorità garanti e soprattutto il Funzionario Redattore Ugo Nucci, Frun, personaggio non personaggio tra i più azzeccati del romanzo, in un libro fatto di personaggi azzeccati.
E' l'Italia della ignoranza vista come spontaneità, del parlare facile come libertà. E, come dice la mia citazione preferita del libro, "siamo passati dall'egemonia culturale alla prevalenza del cretino".
Romanzo breve ma che fa riflettere, amaramente divertente. Sapevo sarebbe stata una lettura che avrei apprezzato e non mi ha delusa.

If there is to be a new trend in contemporary Italian literature, that must certainly be political fiction. Books where you take the current situation, where you change a little bit of names and characters but are absolutely recognizable, where the problems of these politicians are taken to the extreme as to give us a warning of what will happen if we go ahead.
In this novel the intellectuals are targeted, starting with the murder of Giovanni Prospero, a professor who was killed because he cited Spinoza during a TV show. To "defend them" the Ministry of the Interior has this idea of ??creating a list of intellectuals, radical chic. Their declarations, their bookcases, their closets full of cashmere sweaters and jackets with patches will be checked. Always to avoid new incidents, a Regularization for the Simplification of Language starts: enough with subjunctives, enough difficult words, enough intellectualisms. To ensure that the rules are respected, the guarantor authorities and especially the Editor-in-chief Ugo Nucci, called Frun, a character-not-character between the most successful characters in the novel, in a book made up of well-chosen characters.
It is the Italy of ignorance seen as spontaneity, of easy-speaking as freedom. And, as my favorite quote from the book says, "we have moved from cultural hegemony to the prevalence of the idiot".
A short but sobering novel, bitterly amusing. I knew it would be a reading I would have appreciated and it didn't disappoint me.
