Cosa potrebbe succedere se gli esseri umani venissero sostituiti da degli altri esseri geneticamente modificati e impostati per non finire a scatenare violenze e guerre contro i propri simili? Insomma, cosa succederebbe se un essere umano volesse ergersi a Dio?
Margaret Atwood è riuscita a creare una distopia perfetta ambientata in cui gli esseri umani sono divisi a seconda del per quale azienda si lavori, in un mondo sempre più spregiudicato e scorretto, e poi in un futuro, usato dall'autrice per criticare l'eccesso di ingegneria genetica, in cui vive Uomo delle nevi, unico superstite della razza umana, un mondo popolato dai Cracker, esseri geneticamente impostati per tornare a un mondo più libero da vincoli sociali e culturali e libero da impulsi, come l'attrazione sessuale, che possono portare a conflitti.
Come si va avanti nella storia, Uomo delle Nevi racconta l'antefatto, come si è arrivati a questa situazione. Se all'inizio la narrazione appare lenta, andando avanti i colpi di scena non mancano e dopo le prime cento pagine la lettura è andata veloce.
Essendo il primo libro di una trilogia ovviamente il finale è aperto, sono davvero curiosa di sapere come andrà avanti...
Margaret Atwood riesce sempre a immaginare i suoi protagonisti, con la loro sensibilità umana, che sia presente o carente, alle prese con le sfide in un mondo assolutamente sovrumano... purtroppo verosimile, ed è questa forse la cosa che mi spaventa di più, perché ogni volta, come qui o il Racconto dell'Ancella, la Atwood inventa molto poco ma nasce tutto da una osservazione del mondo.
In attesa del secondo volume della saga, curiosa non solo di vedere come andrà avanti la storia di Uomo delle Nevi, ma anche e soprattutto come andrà avanti la storia degli "esseri umani", modificati e non.

What would happen if human beings were replaced by other genetically modified beings and set up to not ending up unleashing violence and wars against their own kind? In short, what would happen if one human being wanted to rise up to God?
Margaret Atwood has managed to create a perfect dystopia set in which human beings are divided according to which company they work for, in an increasingly unscrupulous and incorrect world, and then in a future, used by the author to criticize excess of genetic engineering, where Snowman lives, the only survivor of the human race, a world populated by Crackers, the ones genetically set to return to a world free from social and cultural constraints and free from impulses, such as sexual attraction, which can lead them to conflicts.
As the story progresses, Snowman tells the background, how all this happened. If at the beginning the narration appears slow, going forward the there are no lack of twists and after the first hundred pages the reading went very fast.
Being the first book of a trilogy obviously the ending is open, I'm really curious to know how it will go on...
Margaret Atwood always manages to imagine her main characters, with their human sensitivity, whether present or not, grappling with challenges in an absolutely superhuman world... unfortunately very similar to reality, and this is perhaps the thing that scares me the most, because every time, like here or the Handmaid's Tale, Atwood invents very little but it all comes from an observation of the world.
Waiting for the second volume of the saga, curious not only to see how the story of Snowman will go on, but also and above all how the story of "human beings", modified or not, will go on.
