La morte del Maestro Camilleri ha poi portato questa mia mancanza a un punto che mi sono sentita in dovere di almeno leggerlo, per onorare la sua memoria.
Dopo averlo fatto, devo ammettere, non ne sono proprio pazza. Non è stato quello sconvolgimento intellettuale che mi aspettavo.
Sono una cinquantina di pagine sulla storia dell'indovino Tiresia, sulle ragioni della sua cecità, su come scrittori, poeti e registi parlarono di lui. La sua storia si intreccia con quella di Camilleri, reso anche lui cieco dalla malattia.
Sono sicura che dal vivo sia stata un'esperienza emozionante per chi ha potuto assistervi, date le grandi doti di narratore di Camilleri. Data anche la lunghezza dell'opera, presumo che dal vivo vi siano state parti in più che nel libro non compaiono.
Ed è per queste ragioni che a me la lettura non ha scatenato quell'emozione che mi aspettavo. E' stato interessante ma niente di più. Andavo avanti e pensavo, sicuramente più avanti diventa meglio, ci troverò qualche importante riflessione sulla vita o sulla vecchiaia. Invece, beh, niente.
Per chi può, e a me stessa, consiglio di cercare il video. Perchè non mi arrendo all'idea che per me sia tutto lì.

In shameless delay, I didn't see the show but I've read the book. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of the theater shows seen on TV, so maybe that's one of the reasons it took me so long.
The death of Andrea Camilleri then brought this lack of mine to a point that I felt I had to read at least, to honor his memory.
After doing that, I must admit, I'm not really crazy about it. It wasn't the intellectual upheaval I was expecting.
There are about fifty pages on the history of the prophet Tiresias, on the reasons for his blindness, on how writers, poets and directors talked about him. His story is intertwined with that of Camilleri, who was also blinded by the disease.
I am sure that live it was an exciting experience for those who could attend it, given the great storytelling skills of Camilleri. Given also the length of the work, I assume that there were more live parts than in the book.
And it is for these reasons that reading did not trigger the emotion that I expected. It was interesting but nothing more. I went ahead and thought, surely later it becomes better, I will find some important reflection on life or old age. Instead, well, nothing.
For those who can, and myself, recommend searching for the video. Because I don't give up on the idea that everything is there for me.
