Io so che quando ho tra le mani un libro di storie di Le Fanu, leggerò storie di altissima qualità, di grande suspence e bellezza.
Il dottor Hesselius, medico-esoterista, racconta qui di tre casi di cui è venuto a conoscenza attraverso le carte. Il primo è un racconto in prima persona di una vicenda accaduta quando il dottor Hesselius era uno studente di medicina, nel caso del secondo racconto, invece, sono riportate le due diverse versioni conosciute della stessa vicenda e per quanto riguarda il terzo racconto, il dottore riporta gli incartamenti che raccontano la storia.
Il protagonista dei diversi racconti è un uomo di una certa posizione sociale, rispettato, che affronta casi di apparizioni misteriose e inspiegabili che derivano dal suo passato e che tornano per vendicare vecchi torti subiti.
Tre racconti davvero molto intriganti e interessanti, sono abbastanza corti quindi è fattibile anche leggerli in un giorno, ma davvero la qualità è come al solito altissima.
Incredibilmente, di Le Fanu mi manca il suo romanzo Carmilla, che ho già negli scaffali, colmerò presto anche questa lacuna.

I know that when I have a book of Le Fanu stories in my hands, I will read stories of the highest quality, of great suspense and beauty.
Doctor Hesselius, a medical-esotericist, tells here of three cases that he learned about through the papers. The first is a first-person account of a story that occurred when Dr. Hesselius was a medical student; in the case of the second story, however, the two different known versions of the same story are reported; as regards the third story, the doctor reports the papers that tell the story.
The main character of the stories is a man of a certain social position, respected, who faces cases of mysterious and inexplicable apparitions that derive from his past and who return to avenge old wrongs.
Three really intriguing and interesting stories, they are quite short so it is also possible to read them in one day, but the quality is really high as usual.
Incredibly, I still have to read his novel Carmilla, which I already have on my shelves, I will soon fill this gap too.
