L'ho iniziato e finito una sera in spiaggia, pur essendo un romanzo breve le sue pagine le ha e io le ho divorate.
Divertente, ironico, intelligente, una storia nuova e uno spunto molto carino. La storia parte dalla scoperta di Sua Maestà della presenza di una biblioteca circolante nel cortile del Palazzo. Per educazione, decide di prendere un libro. Legge, ma non lo fa per passione ma per dovere. Invece, a quel primo libro ne seguiranno molti altri e la Regina noterà lei stessa in sé un cambiamento; é più ricettiva nei confronti degli altri, meno attenta alle sottigliezze del suo lavoro ma di più riguardo alle cose che dice e a come lo dice.
Intanto, intorno a lei anche il mondo cambia: i suoi servitori pensano sia dovuto alla demenza senile, il duca suo marito ne é quasi infastidito mentre gli altri familiari sono contenti di venire lasciati un po' più in pace. Anche i corgi, i cagnolini della Regina, patiscono il fatto che la loro padrona li segue di meno e iniziano a distruggere ogni libro che capita loro a tiro.
Infine, da lettrice ormai esperta, la Regina si rende conto che qualcosa deve cambiare, e un grande cambiamento c'é in serbo per lei...
Un libro molto intelligente, un racconto su come la lettura influisca anche su una delle donne più potenti del mondo.
Consigliatissimo, anche per la scrittura del signor Bennett, creatore di tanti spunti di riflessione e di citazioni da estrapolare.

I've started this book for two reasons: number one, the gorgeous reviews, everybody saying "Read it, it's beautiful!". Number two, my huge interest for Britain Monarchy and, most of all, for that extraordinary woman that is the Queen.
I've started and finished it one evening on the beach, it's a short novel and I've devoured it.
Funny, ironic, smart, a new story and a very nice idea. The story begins when Her Majesty discover the existence of a circulating library in the Palace's courtyard. By courtesy, she decides to get a loan of a book, but she doesn't do it for passion but for duty. Instead, there will be other books following and the Queen will change deeply: she is more receptive, less careful to finenesses of her "job" but more to what she says and how.
Around her, meanwhile, the world itself changes: her servants think it's something about the senile dementia, the Duke her husband is almost teased, but the other relatives are happy to being left alone. The corgis too, the Queen's puppies, suffer this lack of attention and try to destroy every book they find.
At the end, as expert reader, the Queen realizes something must change, and a huge change is in store for her...
A very smart book, a tale about how the reading can influence even on the most powerful woman in the world.
I strongly suggest it, for the beautiful writing of Mr Bennett too, maker of ideas and quotes to extract.
