La mia passione per la figura dell'imperatrice Caterina nacque in modo abbastanza frivolo. Lessi, probabilmente in un blog, della collezione dei suoi vestiti in mostra al Palazzo d'Inverno, di quale magnificenza e grandezza fossero testimoni quei vestiti che adornarono la vita ufficiale di una delle più grandi regnanti della storia mondiale.Non avrei potuto scegliere biografia migliore per conoscere la sua storia. Carolly Erickson è bravissima a costruire il personaggio dell'imperatrice, a farci rivivere le sue gesta e i suoi atti, a ricreare un mondo talmente lontano da noi, sia per ricchezza sia per modo di vivere. Si legge piacevolmente come fosse un romanzo, una vita degna di essere celebrata e incredibile come fosse quella di un romanzo.
Dalla nascita e dall'arrivo alla corte russa come promessa sposa dell'erede Pietro, il rapporto con l'imperatrice Elisabetta, la presa del potere e la sua vita privata e pubblica fino alla morte, non c'è un momento in cui non abbia divorato queste pagine e non sia andata avanti ammirando questa grandissima figura.
Che vita incredibile!
Non vedo l'ora di poter recarmi a San Pietroburgo e visitare i luoghi che hanno visto la sua vita e il suo operato. Non mi immagino niente che non sia importante e maestoso, come lei.

My passion for the Empress Catherine was born quite frivolously. I've read, probably in a blog, of the collection of her clothes on display at the Winter Palace, of which magnificence and grandeur the clothes that adorned the official life of one of the greatest rulers in world history were witnesses.
I could not have chosen a better biography to know her story. Carolly Erickson is very good at building the character of the empress, making us relive her deeds and her acts, recreating a world so far away from us, both in terms of wealth and way of life. It reads nicely as if it were a novel, a life worthy of being celebrated and unbelievable like that of a novel.
From the birth and arrival at the Russian court as a betrothed to the heir Peter, the relationship with the empress Elizabeth, the seizure of power and her private and public life until her death, there is no moment in which I haven't devoured these pages and did not go ahead admiring this great figure.
What an incredible life!
I look forward to going to St. Petersburg and visiting the places that have seen her life and her work. I don't imagine anything that is not important and majestic, like her.
