"La straniera" è il resoconto del suo sentirsi sempre diversa, divisa tra due mondi diversi, dalla diversità fisica e da quella di pensiero, dal desiderio di adattarsi al mondo, di mettere radici, che sia nel mondo dove è nata, in Italia, a Londra, dove si è trasferita e dove ha poi fondato il Festival of Italian Literature in London, e l'America dei nonni e della famiglia.
In un mondo così ormai internazionale, a discapito di chi vuole rinchiuderci nei nostri confini, è un sentire ormai comune e diffuso, reso perfettamente dalla penna dell'autrice.

I must be honest and admit that I didn't immediately understand that I was reading an autobiography / memoir, but from the uniqueness of the events of the first person narrator I thought it was a novel. But it's true that sometimes reality exceeds fantasy, and Claudia Durastanti's life is extraordinary. Her parents are both deaf, with truly novel-esque lives, growing between Italy and America.
"The stranger" is her report of always feeling different, divided between two different worlds, the physical and mental difference, the desire to adapt to the world, to put down roots, in the world where she was born, in Italy, or in London, where she moved and where she then founded the Festival of Italian Literature in London, or in the America of her grandparents and family.
In a currently international world, to the detriment of those who want to lock us in our borders, it is a feeling that is now common and widespread, perfectly rendered by the author.
