In questo libro sono raccolti gli ultimi racconti, storie rifiutate negli anni Trenta da editori e riviste, e qualche soggetto per il cinema.
Colpisce quanto Fitzgerald proponesse delle storie molto più trasgressive e moderne, scelte molto più estreme, al limite quasi del blasfemo. Viste oggi, ovviamente, i temi non ci scandalizzano e riconosciamo la bravura dell'autore americano, il suo incredibile talento, la sua capacità di creare storie interessanti o di riportare quelle che gli sono state raccontate da bambino e riscriverle dandogli il suo tocco da maestro.
Non so perchè ci ho messo due mesi a leggerlo tutto. Ho avuto dei giorni in cui leggevo le storie una dopo l'altra, e altri momenti in cui mi staccavo. Essendo dei racconti, probabilmente, tra uno e l'altro non c'era il bisogno di sapere come una storia fosse andata a finire, in quanto ogni volta che lo riaprivo era per scoprire una nuova storia con nuovi personaggi.

As anyone who frequents this blog already knows, Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the writers who is closer to my heart. I've read a lot about him, I fall short of omething, but I'm at a very good point. I believe that in terms of narrative, style, how he tells stories, he is one of the greatest.
This book collects the latest stories, stories rejected in the Thirties by publishers and magazines, and some subjects for cinema.
It is striking how much Fitzgerald proposed much more transgressive and modern stories, much more extreme choices, almost bordering on blasphemous. Seen today, of course, the themes don't scandalize us and we recognize the skill of the American author, his incredible talent, his ability to create interesting stories or to bring back those that were told to him as a child and rewrite them giving them his masterful touch.
I don't know why it took me two months to read it all. I've had days where I read the stories one after another, and other times where I fell apart. Being short stories, probably, between one and the other there wasn't need to know how a story had ended up, as every time I reopened it, it was to discover a new story with new characters.
