In questi giorni di fine ottobre, con l'avvicinarsi di Halloween, torna sempre più prepotente la voglia di leggere qualcosa a tema. Da sempre appassionata di streghe, di queste donne indipendenti, forti, decise, potenti, non potevo non avere questo libro della Abeditore, sono corsa in libreria appena è uscito!
Parto prima di tutto dal fattore estetico, come al solito la Abeditore non delude, copertina meravigliosa, illustrazioni all'interno bellissime! L'effetto "antico" della grafica sempre affascinante!
Ho apprezzato particolarmente la prefazione femminista di Giulia Ciarapica, molto interessante e con qualche spunto di lettura in più per approfondire la questione. E sempre per rimanere nell'ambito, c'è una ulteriore attenzione che ho apprezzato. Nella maggior parte dei casi, quando si tratta di raccolte di racconti di genere horror/fantastico di autori del passato, e ne ho diverse, in genere la selezione dei racconti riporta quasi esclusivamente autori maschi. In questo caso, invece, c'è una buona presenza anche di autrici donne che niente di meno in qualità hanno rispetto ai loro colleghi maschi. E mi sembra anche giusto considerando che si parla di streghe!
Ultimo ma non per importanza, il contenuto è diviso tra narrativa e saggistica, quindi tra i racconti veri e propri, gli estratti dal libro "Demonologia e stregoneria" di Sir Walter Scott, documenti reali del periodo della caccia alle streghe e una appendice con i metodi di tortura... per capire fino in fondo quanto queste donne erano già condannate ancora prima di arrivarci, per colpa dell'ignoranza e del fanatismo di chi le accusava. I racconti sono divisi per temi, volendo si può anche leggere a salti.
In totale, complimenti alla Abeditore per aver pubblicato questo gioiello, personalmente lo ritengo, ad oggi, il libro più bello e interessante di una casa editrice che ci ha già abituati a libri belli e interessanti!

In these days at the end of October, with the approach of Halloween, the desire to read something about this subject returns more and more overwhelming. Always passionate about witches, these independent, strong, decisive, powerful women, I had to have this book by the Abeditore in my shelves,so I ran to the bookstore as soon as it came out!
I start from the aesthetic factor, as usual the Abeditore doesn't disappoint, wonderful cover, beautiful illustrations inside! The "antique" effect of the graphics is always fascinating!
I particularly appreciated the feminist preface by Giulia Ciarapica, very interesting and with some more reading ideas to deepen the question. And always to stay within the subject matter, there is an additional care that I appreciated. In most cases, when it comes to collections of horror / fantasy genre stories by authors of the past, and I have several, generally the selection of the stories reports almost exclusively male authors. In this case, however, there is also a good presence of female authors who have nothing less in quality than their male colleagues. And it also seems fair considering that we are talking about witches!
Last but not least, the content is divided between fiction and non-fiction, so with the fictional stories there are the extracts from the book "Demonology and witchcraft" by Sir Walter Scott, real documents from the period of the witch hunt and an appendix with the methods of torture... to fully understand how much these women were already condemned even before they got there, because of the ignorance and fanaticism of those who accused them. The stories are divided by themes, one can read it in the order one prefers.
So, congratulations to Abeditore for having published this jewel, personally I believe this is the most beautiful and interesting book of a publishing house that has already accustomed me to beautiful and interesting books!
