Forse i miei preferiti, nonchè i meno "isterici" sono coloro che hanno materialmente poggiato la corona sul capo di Elisabetta II, Wallis Simpson e Edoardo d'Inghilterra. Ma in fin dei conti, sono tutte storielle su queste coppie, molto romanzate, interessanti ma che non aggiungono niente di nuovo.
A parte il pensiero che di amori così ormai non ce ne sono più... e per fortuna. Wallis è probabilmente la parte femminile che esce meglio da questo libro. Romantica, ma con i piedi per terra. Per fortuna che c'è lei.

Wallis and Edward, Liz and Richard, Frida and Diego, Dom Pedro and Ines. Great couples, great lovers. Some more known, others perhaps less, such as Lady Mountbatten and Nehru, Victor Hugo and Juliette. But as far as the title is high-sounding, I do not agree with the fact that all of these have made a really important contribution to the world. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, however, would have made great movies. Rimbaud and Verlaine would have been two great poets anyway. Edith Piaf and Cerdan would still be a great singer and a great boxer.
Perhaps my favourite, as well as the less "hysterical" are those who have physically held the crown on the head of Elizabeth II, Wallis Simpson and Edward of England. But in the end, these are all little stories about these couples, very fictionalized, interesting but they add nothing new.
Apart from the thought that this kind of love is so far no more... and fortunately. Wallis is probably the female part that comes out better from this book. Romantic, but with feet to the ground. Luckily there she is.
