Richard Dawkins è l'autore di uno dei libri che maggiormente ha influito su di me. Il suo L'illusione di Dio è uno dei capisaldi del mio pensiero, un libro grazie a cui ho capito molte cose. In questi giorni di isolamento, ho così preso un altro suo libro in mano, un libro che avevo comprato qualche mese ma che non avevo ancora iniziato. Quale momento migliore per leggerlo, quando si deve rimanere in casa?Il tema principale di questo è l'evoluzione, come funziona, perchè funziona in quel modo è via andando. Il titolo, l'orologiaio cieco, rimanda a un'immmagine secondo me davvero bella: "la selezione naturale è l'orologiaio cieco, cieco perchè non vede dinnanzi a sè, non pianifica conseguenze, non ha in vista alcun fin. Eppure, i risultati viventi della selezione naturale ci danno un'impressione molto efficace dell'esistenza di un disegno intenzionale di un maestro orologiaio; che alla base della complessità della natura vivente ci sia un disegno intenzionale, è però solo un'illusione", mostrando l'evoluzione come alternativa rispetto al creazionismo, e quindi all'esistenza di un dio creatore.
Ho avuto bisogno di maggior tempo per leggere e finire questo libro perchè, a differenza dell'altro, è più tecnico, con giustamente maggiori riferimenti alla fisica e alla biologia, materie su cui io, soprattutto per quanto riguarda la prima, ho una preparazione estremamente di base.
Ecco perchè alcune parti mi sono rimaste molto oscure finchè Dawkins, che sa come scrivere libri, non mi dava una spiegazione forse meno tecnica ma maggiormente comprensibile per i miei mezzi.
Sicuramente un tuffo in una materia assolutamente affascinante, spiegata con grande intelligenza e tenendo vivo l'interesse del lettore.
Probabilmente, dopo questo credo che mi riverserò su qualche lettura più adatta al mio background culturale, ma tornerò sicuramente dal saggista britannico per le altre sue opere.

Richard Dawkins is the author of one of the books that has most influenced me. His The God Delusion is one of the cornerstones of my thinking, a book thanks to which I understood many things. In the days of isolation, I took another of his books, a book that I had bought a few months ago but had not yet started. What better time to read it when you have to stay indoors?
The main theme of this is evolution, how it works, why it works that way. The title, The blind watchmaker, refers to a really beautiful image in my opinion: "natural selection is the blind watchmaker, blind because it does not see ahead, it does not plan consequences, it has no purpose in mind. Yet, the results of natural selection give us a very effective impression of the existence of an intentional design by a master watchmaker; that at the basis of the complexity of living nature there is an intentional design, however, it is only an illusion", showing the evolution as an alternative to creationism, and therefore to the existence of a creator god.
I needed more time to read and finish this book because, unlike the other, it is more technical, with rightly more references to physics and biology, subjects on which I, especially as regards the first one, have an extremely basic preparation.
This is why some parts remained very unclear to me until Dawkins, who knows how to write books, gave me a perhaps less technical but more understandable explanation.
Definitely a dive into an absolutely fascinating subject, explained with great intelligence and keeping the interest of the reader alive.
Probably, after this I believe that I will pour on some reading more suited to my cultural background, but I will certainly return to the British essayist for his other works.
