We are at the beginning of the twentieth century, in England, and three young women, Bessie, Alice and Margaret meet a man and get married. Up to here everything is normal. But another thing the three women have in common: all three die drowned in a bathtub, a few days after the wedding.
The coincidence doesn't escape the British police who, with the  available at the time, manages to stop the bigamist. The main witness for the prosecution, Dr. Bernard Spilsbury, who thanks to his experience as a forensic pathologist, worthy of our modern CIS, brings the processes to their right conclusion.
Jane Robins retraces the true story of Dr. Spilsbury, from the first cases to the most sensational ones like that of the brides drowned in the bathtub. In the background, the meticulous reconstruction of the England of time, a changing society, the feminist suffragette movement, and the threat of war.
Although I am not a reader fond of crime and trial reconstructions, I found this book very interesting for the accuracy of the details, both those more relevant to people and those of the historical period.
Another reading that could be good for this period, in which we need interesting but also and especially compelling readings. And this book answers all these requirements.
