Sono da sempre un'appassionata di questo genere un po' horror, un po' gotico, e questa raccolta mi ha davvero soddisfatta. Non solo c'è la giusta dose di spavento, ma c'è una cura nella narrazione, una bellezza, che dà il tocco decisivo. Tutti sono bravi a spaventare con il mondo splatter, cruento e violento, qui siamo nel terreno dell'incubo, dell'inconscio, del terrore nel quotidiano, e questo è decisamente meglio.

I found this collection of short stories in a second-hand bookshop, I just couldn't leave it there! Not only because it has two beautiful covers and because it is edited by Calvino, but also and above all for the selection of the chosen ones. There are unrivaled masterpieces such as Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, there are other very famous tales such as Wells' The Country of the Blind and Gogol's The Nose, other stories that I did not know but of great quality, fantastic in its literal sense of irrational, unconscious.
I've always been a fan of this kind of horror, a bit gothic, and this collection has really satisfied me. Not only is there the right amount of fear, but there is a care in the narrative, a beauty, which gives the decisive touch. Everyone is good at scaring with the splatter world, bloody and violent, here we are in the land of nightmare, of the unconscious, of terror in everyday life, and this is much better.
