Come ho già detto, non è che io sia proprio una fan del fantasy. Difficilmente mi vedrete a un Comicon e non mi capiterà mai di vestirmi da personaggio di Il signore degli anelli (non fosse altro perché non li conosco). Non so se ci siano anche diverse catalogazioni del fantasy, quindi non ho idea a quale classe appartenga questo che ho appena letto. Ma questo è un romanzo più "terrestre" e quindi più fattibile per me. Richard vive a Londra ed è fidanzato con la super-ambiziosa (e gran rompiballe) Jessica. Un giorno soccorre una ragazza in difficoltà in strada. La ragazza si chiama Porta. E sì che molti anni prima una mendicante gli disse di stare attento alle porte, e che a Londra avrebbe avuto a che fare con una città sconosciuta...
E ora, visto che questa recensione finirà su Twitter e verrà sicuramente taggato l'autore, vorrei solo dirgli, per quanto scettica all'inizio, alla fine il suo libro mi è piaciuto. E che non era assolutamente superficiale. E che adesso mi cerco anche lo sceneggiato tv.
E soprattutto, che la sua libreria personale, di cui ho visto delle foto, è assolutamente l'incarnazione del mio obiettivo nella vita, e che se volesse postare altre foto, ne sarei molto felice.

At the beginning of this review, I must admit two things. The first one is that I knew Neil Gaiman just on Twitter. The second one is that, reading the first pages, I wasn't so excited. I don't like Fantasy and this one appeared a bit superficial. But, going on and on, I wanted to know how the story ends, imagining some scenarios. I didn't guess right one, or at least at ten pages to the end, when everything was already settled.
As I've already say, I'm not a fantasy's fan. Unlikely you'll meet me at a Comicon and it's not going to happen seeing me dressed as a Lord of The Ring's character (for no other reason that I don't know them). I don't know if there are categorizations of fantasy, so I have no idea if this novel is part of one of those. But this is more "terrestrial" and so it's more suitable for me. Richard lives in London and is engaged with the super-ambitious (and huge pain in the ass) Jessica. One evening, he helps a girl in the street. The girl's name in Door. A lot of years before a panhandler told him he had to be careful with doors, and that in London he was going to have to do with an unknown city...
And now, considering that this review will be on Twitter and Mr Gaiman will be tagged, I just want to write him that, as far as I was skeptical at the beginning, at the end I liked his novel. And it wasn't superficial at all. And now I look for the tv show.
And above all, his personal library, of which I've seen some pictures, is definitely the incarnation of my life's goal, and if he wants to post other pics, I will be very happy.
