David Kepesh si definisce un uomo emancipato. Professore di critica letteraria all'università, non si fa scappare l'occasione di andare a letto con tutte le sue studentesse e guardare con sguardo di superiorità i suoi colleghi sposati e noiosi che guardano a lui con la stessa aria di superiorità.
Finché, nella sua vita non arriva Carmela. Cubana, bellissima, sexy, con un seno perfetto. E anche se l'inizio della loro relazione segue il solito copione del professore, andando avanti l'uomo maturo scoprirà sentimenti vicini al legame. Lui, che non accettava relazioni improntate alla monogamia e alla condivisione di sentimenti, si ritroverà spezzato in due, colpito al cuore da una giovane donna inconsapevole del suo potere.
Un libro forte, dai sentimenti potenti. Non manca la sessualità spinta tipica di Roth, ma la sua scrittura così intensa rende tutto imprescindibile dalla storia.
Bellissimo, con un inizio da superare per arrivare alla vera bellezza.

More and more convinced that Roth deserves a Nobel Prize. I say again and again, considering that at about pag. 60 I have even thought to quit the reading. Guess how much were powerful the following pages for making me change my idea.

A strong book, powerful emotions. Of course there is that racy sexuality typical of Roth, but his so intense writing make it essential to the story.
