Rilettura in chiave contemporanea del romanzo di Jane Austen con lo stesso titolo, verrebbe quasi da dire che a parte i metodi di comunicazione, poco è cambiato nel mondo! Le dispute familiari, gli amori, la seduzione, i tradimenti, tutto quello che c'era già nei romanzi di Jane Austen c'è anche qui! Con un tono sicuramente più moderno e con dei passaggi nella trama più adatti a un pubblico contemporaneo, ma i temi di fondo sono universali e travalicano tempo e spazio.
Gianandrea Cerrato muore improvvisamente lasciando sole la moglie e le tre figlie. Per pagare i debiti non solo dovranno vendere tutto, ma in più dovranno abbandonare la casa dove abitano in quanto lasciata per testamento al figlio nato dal primo matrimonio, figlio che è sposato con una donna volgare e arrivista.
Le quattro donne dovranno così trasferirsi e adattarsi a una vita completamente nuova, dove Eleonora, la maggiore e più pratica delle figlie assurge al ruolo di capo famiglia. Lei e Marianna sono le protagoniste delle vicende sentimentali raccontate nel libro, sospese tra ragione e sentimento, dove la ragione sta al 90% dalla parte di Eleonora, pratica e poco incline a svenevolezze varie, e il sentimento dalla parte di Marianna, che legge Shakespeare e crede nella castità fino al matrimonio.
Una lettura leggera ma molto ben fatta. Una buona rilettura della maestra Austen, lei ne sarebbe stata contenta.

I'd like to remember why this title was among my ebooks, but I just can't. It had been there for some time, probably taken because a suggestion and left there to wait for the right moment. Who knows...
A contemporary reinterpretation of Jane Austen's novel of the same title, it would almost be said that apart from the methods of communication, little has changed in the world! Family disputes, loves, seduction, betrayals, everything that was already in Jane Austen's novels is also here! With a definitely more modern tone and with passages in the plot more suitable for a contemporary audience, but the underlying themes are universal and go beyond time and space.
Gianandrea Cerrato dies suddenly leaving his wife and three daughters alone. To pay off their debts, not only will they have to sell everything, but they will also have to leave the house where they live as that have been left as inheritance to his son born from his first marriage, son who is married to a vulgar and careerist woman.
The four women will thus have to move and adapt to a completely new life, where Eleonora, the eldest and most practical of the daughters, assumes the role of head of the family. She and Marianna are the protagonists of the sentimental events told in the book, suspended between sense and sensibility, where reason is 90% on Eleonora's side, practical and not inclined to mawkish stuff, and sentiment on Marianna's side, who reads Shakespeare and believes in chastity until marriage.
A light but very well done reading. A good rereading of Austen, she would have been happy.
