Genio e crudeltà, recita il sottotitolo di questo libro. E Picasso geniale, lo era sicuramente.
Circondato da donne fin dalla nascita, con una madre autoritaria e a cui lo legava un amore e una comprensione incondizionata, tutta la vita di Picasso vedrà donne presenti, a volte contemporaneamente quasi da creare un piccolo harem. E da loro prenderà l'ispirazione e l'anima, tanto che solo Francois tra tutte lo lascerà, mentre in tutte le altre il magnetismo e l'attrazione del maestro resterà. Per ognuna delle sue donne, compresa la mamma da bravo maschio latino, tutta la storia, da come è avvenuto l'incontro fino alla rottura. E quindi ci sono la prima moglie Olga, Francois, l'ultima moglie, Jacqueline, che al momento della sua morte "volle solo per sé l'uomo che aveva diviso con il mondo intero".
Il libro è molto bello, diviso in capitoli che però si sovrappongono come sovrapposte sono state le donne di Picasso, probabilmente un uomo che difficilmente riusciva a stare da solo con la sua arte. Un uomo complesso, un Minotauro, come lui stesso si vedeva. E nei suoi quadri le sue donne venivano dipinte sempre molto sessualizzate, quasi davvero, ripeto, a volergli rubare l'anima e farla totalmente sua. Un uomo possessivo, che queste donne le voleva tutte per sè. E solo donne con una forte personalità riuscirono a vivergli accanto.
Un libro interessante su un aspetto di un grande maestro che volevo approfondire. Ma sinceramente mi aspettavo di più, la scrittura non mi ha emozionato, sembrava quasi un catalogo di pezzi in mostra. Sarà un caso?

He lived surrounded by women from his birth, an authoritative mother who he loved unconditionally, in his life there will be always women, sometimes at the same moment, like a kind of harem. And from them he will take their soul and the inspiration, as much that just Francois will decide to break their relationship, while the others won't be able to resist to his attraction and magnetism. For everyone of them, in this book you can read their relationship, from the first meeting to the break-up. There is the first wife Olga, Francois, Jacqueline the last one who, at the moment of his death, will want just for herself a man who divided with the rest of the world when he was alive.
The book is very interesting, divided in chapters that are usually overlapping, as the lovestories with these women of Picasso, probably a man that scarcely can stay alone with his art. A complicated man, a Minotaur, as he sees himself. And in his paintings women are pictured always very sexualized, and looks like he wants to, again, steal their souls and take possession of them. A possessive man, he wanted those women entirely under his power. And just women of strong personality manage to live by his side.
An interesting book about a side of a great artist that I wanted to examine in depth. But, maybe I expected more, the way of writing didn't touch me, looked like a catalogue of an exhibition. Is it fortuitous?
