Cosa potrei aggiungere?
Beh, innanzitutto credo sia doveroso dire che tutto questo successo è meritato. Questo libro vende perchè è bello. Stop. Direi che è tutto.
No, non è vero. Voglio spiegarvi perchè l'ho trovato così poetico, così di ispirazione, così intenso.
Theo è solo un ragazzino quando sua madre muore in un museo dove erano in visita insieme, a causa di un'esplosione. Nello stesso museo, si trovano Welby e la nipote Pippa. Lei, primo grande amore di Theo, rimane ferita, mentre il vecchio muore davanti agli occhi di Theo, al quale viene chiesto di portare in salvo "Il Cardellino", un quadro esposto nel museo. Questo è il momento da cui tutto ha inizio, e non posso raccontarvelo perchè voglio davvero che lo leggiate.
Voglio però parlarvi di quello che è il mio personaggio preferito, di Hobie. Hobie è un po' un padre per Theo, gli insegna il mestiere, è lui quello cui Theo vorrebbe assomigliare, è lui che vorrebbe rendere orgoglioso. Lui, con i suoi vestiti da gentleman inglese, calmo, saggio, il maestro del restauro. Hobie, sempre tranquillo. Il mio personaggio preferito. E ho ritrovato lui nella crescita di Theo, nella sua consapevolezza finale, nella sua maturità, nel suo passare attraverso varie prove, dure, durissime, della vita e arrivare a rendersi conto che la vita non è facile, che la vita ci mette alla prova, e che anche amare qualcosa che rimarrà sempre, qualcosa che sfida la morte oltre la nostra di morte, è importante. E che quello che ci succede, molto spesso è solo il risultato di una giocata d'azzardo.
Un libro di crescita, di consapevolezza, di maturazione. Un bellissimo libro.
E sì, lo so che è un po' più lungo della media, ma se è un bel libro, è meglio che sia lungo, no?

What can I say of more relevant about the most awarded and discussed and read book of 2014? Pulitzer Prize's winner, third work by Donna Tartt, writer who publish a book every 10 years, nominated in every Most Beautiful Books of 2014's List.
What can I say more?
Well, this huge success is definitely well deserved. This book is a bestseller because it's a beautiful book. That's all. No, it's not. I have to explain why it is so poetic, so inspirational, so intense.
Theo is just a boy when his mum dies in a museum they were visiting together, because of a bomb. In the same museum, there are Welby and his niece Pippa too. She, Theo's first love, is wounded, while Welby dies before Theo's eyes, whom the old man asks to make safe "The Goldfinch", a picture exhibited in the museum. This is the beginning of everything, and I'm not going to tell you more because I really want you read this book.
I tell you about my favourite character, Hobie. Hobie is a kind of paternal figure for Theo, teaching him his job, and Theo would be like him, he wants make Hobie proud of him. Hobie, with his English gentleman style, calm, wise, the Master of Restoration. Hobie, always serene. My favourite character. And at the end I found him in Theo's adulthood, in his awareness, in his maturity, in his riding over hard times of his life and realizing that life is hard, that life challenges us, and that also love something that will live forever, something beyond the Death, our death, is important. And what happens, sometimes is just the result of a gamble.
A book about growth, awareness, maturity. A beautiful book.
And yes, I am aware it's a bit long, but if it is a beautiful book, isn't it better?
