In realtà, ho letto la prefazione il 5 agosto, poi presa in altre letture l'ho messo in pausa, per poi riprenderlo e leggerlo durante una molta piovosa giornata autunnale.
Il volume comprende 15 piccoli interventi di altrettanti scrittori, che riguardano altrettante librerie sparse in giro per il mondo. Da Washington DC a Nairobi, dalla Cina alla Danimarca, c'è davvero di che spaziare.
Tante storie, di librerie accoglienti e altre da cui si viene cacciati, di librai burberi o gentili ma sempre pronti a consigliare il libro che cambierà la vita.
Per chi come me, ha sempre considerato le librerie dei luoghi dove niente di male ti può succedere, e anzi, più le si frequenta e meglio è, un toccasana.
Grazie a questo libro, ho scoperto una cosa che mi ha molto interessata: nei tempi antichi dell'impero Ottomano, nelle prime pagine dei manoscritti, veniva scritta in inchiostro velenoso una preghiera a Kebikec, un djinn (praticamente un genio), in cui gli si chiedeva di preservare la carta dalla distruzione operata dal tempo e dai vermi. La bellezza!
Probabilmente solo per questa ultima notizia avrei amato questo libro, e non solo per il viaggio che mi ha fatto fare tra i ricordi e le librerie di tutto il mondo. Bellissimo.

In case anyone arrived at this review from Goodreads, and saw the reading span, one could have a few questions. Yes, because I needed from 5 August to 10 October, raise some doubts!
In fact, I've read the preface on August 5th, then taken in other readings I've paused it, and then resume it and read it during a rainy autumn day.
The volume includes 15 small interventions by as many writers, about as many bookstores scattered around the world. From Washington DC to Nairobi, from China to Denmark, there really is plenty to do.
So many stories, of cozy bookstores and other from which you are driven out, gruff or gentle booksellers but always ready to recommend the book that will change your life.
For those like me, who has always considered the bookstores and libraries as places where nothing bad can happen to you, and indeed, the more you attend and the better, a panacea.
Thanks to this book, I discovered something that interested me very much: in the ancient times of the Ottoman Empire, in the first pages of the manuscripts, a prayer was written in poison ink to Kebikec, a djinn (practically a genius), in which he was asked to preserve the paper from the destruction done by time and worms. The beauty!
Probably only for this latest news I would have loved this book, and not only for the journey between the memories and bookstores around the world. Beautiful.
