Siamo alle prove di uno spettacolo, sono presenti il Capocomico, i Primi Attori, altri attori, il Macchinista, il Suggeritore, e altri. Improvvisamente, arrivano sulla scena i Sei Personaggi in Cerca d'Autore: il Padre, la Madre, il Figlio, la Figliastra, il Giovinetto e la Bambina. Non hanno bisogno di una storia, perchè l'hanno già in sè, immutabile. Non sono attori professionisti, ma quelli che lo sono realmente non sono realmente loro, e quindi fingerebbero solo di essere loro. Ma i Personaggi stessi sono creati, sono personaggi reali di finzione, mentre gli attori sono finzione di realtà. E in questo sta il paradosso dell'intera commedia.
Un lavoro surreale, degno del genio del Premio Nobel siciliano.
Perchè allora tre stelle? Perchè, pur riconoscendo l'innato suo talento, a me Pirandello annoia sempre alquanto. E anche questo libriccino, che pure avrei potuto leggere in un giorno, l'ho letto nel doppio del tempo.

Maybe one of the most known play by Pirandello, and now I can also, after my own reading, understand over why. The basis lies in the combination of reality/fiction. It's all a game, played in the place where these elements come together: the stage of a theater.
We are at the rehearsal of a show, there are the Director, the Leading Man and the Leading Lady, other Actors, the Stagehand, the Prompter, and others.
Abruptly, reach the stage the Six Characters in search of an author: The Father, The Mother, The Son, The Stepdaughter, The Boy and The Little Girl. They don't need a script, because they already have it in themselves, unchanging. They aren't professional actors, but the ones who actually are professionals, they aren't actually them, so they would pretend to be them. But the Six Characters are made, they are real characters of fiction, while the actors are fiction of reality. And here lies the paradox of the entire comedy.
A surreal play, worthy of the Sicilian Nobel Prize's genius.
So, why only three stars? Because, though recognising his innate talent, Pirandello bores me a lot. And this little book too, I could read it in a day, and I actually read it in two days.
