Ci ho messo un po' a leggerla, ammetto, perché la prima parte, la sua infanzia, é abbastanza lunga e abbastanza noiosa. Già l'adolescenza risulta più interessante e dal primo matrimonio é una lettura molto più interessante e piacevole. La formazione del suo pensiero adulto, la famiglia. Il comunismo, lo guarda con lo sguardo disincantato del dopo. Se al momento, lei e i suoi compagni erano convinti di essere dalla parte del bene, a posteriori ci si rende conto che in tutti i prodotti umani c'è una zona d'ombra, e che il bene assoluto non risiede certo nei movimenti politici.
C'é tantissimo soprattutto della sua formazione come donna. Del suo spirito indomito ed energico e vitale e spontaneo nell'affrontare la vita, l'amore, le relazioni con gli uomini, il rapporto con i genitori, la famiglia. Si trova qui la famosissima frase "Non esiste noia paragonabile a quella di una giovane donna intelligente che passi tutta la giornata con un bambino molto piccolo", che nella sua schiettezza enuncia una enorme verità... E ditemi che non é vero, se avete il coraggio!
Un libro secondo me indispensabile per tutti coloro che vogliono conoscere meglio questa incredibile scrittrice, ironica, intelligente, curiosa, sveglia.

The volume one of the autobiography of my beloved Doris, from the birth to the moment when, almost thirty years old, she leaves Zimbabwe to move to London.
I needed time to read it, I must admit, because the first part, her childhood, is long and pretty boring. The adolescence is just more interesting and, starting with the first marriage, is a pleasant and more interesting reading. The development of her mature thinking, the family. The Communism, she now looks at it with the disanchanted look of the after. If at the moment, her comrades and her are convinced of their being at the right side, in retrospect they realized that in any human "product" there is a grey area, and that "good" in absolute sense doens't lie in political movements.
There is so much in these pages, especially on her development as woman. Her wild and energetic and dynamic and instinctive way to deal with life, love, relationships, her parents, family. In here you can read that super-famous quote " There is nothing more boring for an intelligent woman than to spend endless amounts of time with small children.", and in her frankness tells a supreme truth... if you're frank and brave enough, I dare you to tell me it's not true!
This reading for me is essential for everyone who wants to know better this extraordinary, ironic, smart writer.
