Le allegre comari di Windsor sono le comari Ford e Page che, corteggiate da Falstaff con la stessa lettera d'amore decidono di vendicarsi di lui inscenando delle situazioni in cui Sir John viene ridicolizzato e malmenato. La terza comare, non ufficiale ma per decisamente degna del titolo, è la giovane Anne, figlia di comare Page, che alla fine del libro farà un bello scherzetto a tutti... mi piacerebbe molto dirvelo ma non mi perdonerei mai se non vi dessi la possibilità di godervi la magia di Shakespeare interamente.
Insomma, una commedia molto English e molto divertente, forse molto semplice per chi del Bardo ha l'immagine del Macbeth o dell'Amleto, ma non si può vivere di sole tragedie, no?

Sometimes, I ask myself if it's because my English soul that I love Shakespeare so much. For example, this play. Someone else could say it is slow and boring, without understand why this "thing" is called "a comedy". For me, instead, this is pretty brilliant and smart, the classical qualities of english humour... and, to be honest, in my opinion it is the best!
The Merry Wives of Windsor are Mistress Ford and Mistress Page who, courted both by Falstaff with the same love letter, decide to take revenge of him putting on situations where Sir John is ridiculed and beaten. The third one, not official but still deserving the title, is the young Anne, daughter of Mistress Page, who at the end of the book will give a naughty treat to all them... I would like to reveal it to you but would be unforgivable not giving you the opportunity to enjoy entirely Shakespeare's magic.
So, a very English and funny comedy, maybe too easy for who knows the Bard for Macbeth and Hamlet, but people can't live only with tragedies!
