La storia parte con l'esilio, deciso da re Riccardo, di Bolingbroke, il futuro Enrico IV. Il re é però sotto l'influenza dei suoi consiglieri e il popolo non lo ama. L'esiliato tornerà e il dramma finirà con Riccardo II assassinato e un nuovo re in attesa di incoronazione.
Il concetto più interessante é sicuramente il passaggio dalla figura del re vista come "l'unto del Signore" al ridimensionamento della stessa e il re visto colui che é scelto dal popolo.
Come tutti i drammi di Shakespeare, anche da questo é difficile staccarsi e infatti, almeno per quanto mi riguarda, é stato letto quasi tutto d'un fiato. Vorrei fare una recensione oggettiva, ma credo e continuo a credere che egli sia il maggior drammaturgo di tutti i tempi, capace come pochi altri a tenere il lettore e lo spettatore incollati alle sue parole. Consiglio e consiglierò sempre a tutti di leggere la sua opera, arricchimento completo.

The main reason why I started this book is my will to watch the BBC series "The Hollow Crown". It is based on four shakesperian plays, Richard II, Henry IV part one and two, and then Henry V. As the movies based on a novel, I still prefer reading the book first and then watching the movie or the tv series. In this case, I'm not in England, I don't know when I'll watch the series, so in the mean time I enjoy the books.
The story starts with the exile, decided by King Richard II, of Bolingbroke, the future Henry IV. The king is under the influence of his counselors and the crowd doesn't love him. The exile will come back and the drama will finish with a murdered Richard II and a new king in wait for the coronation.
The most interesting concept is the change from a king considered like "the anointed one" to the reshaping of his figure and a king considered as decided by the crowd.
As every Shakespeare's drama, leaving it is difficult and I read it in one swoop! I'd like to write an objective review, but I think that he is the all-time greatest playwright, capable to keep the reader or the audience on his words. I suggest now and forever to read every play of him, mental enhancement.
