La famiglia Glass, a cui appartengono i due protagonisti, sono una famiglia di geni famosa per essere apparsa a un talk show da piccoli, programma in cui chi chiamava poteva porre ai bambini una qualunque domanda. La prima dei due di cui facciamo conoscenza è Franny, a cui è dedicato il primo dei due racconti che compondono il libro. Nel secondo racconto scopriamo meglio i componenti della famiglia e i loro caratteri. La base del libro è la crisi spirituale e personale della ragazza, e la discussione con il fratello più grande. I due ragazzi sono intelligenti, colti, svegli. Ma nessuno dei due è davvero felice.
I dialoghi la fanno da padrone, vivaci, intelligenti, un po' surreali. Ho apprezzato maggiormente questo rispetto a Il giovane Holden, più arguto il pensiero e più interessanti i personaggi. E' un libro interessante, che scorre via veloce. Non lunghissimo, ho messo poco tempo a leggerlo. Ma molto bello.

I knew two things about this book: written by J.D.Salinger, and the actress Zooey Deschanel has been called Zooey after this novel. There you are, first surprise: the Zooey of this book is a young man.
The Glass's family, which includes the two characters, is a family of genius, famous for participating in a talk show when the kids were very young, show where the kids answered to every kind of questions made by the callers. The first one we meet is Franny, to whom is dedicated the first of the two short stories in the book. In the second one, we deepen our knowledge about the members and their personalities. The focus of the book is the spiritual and personal Zooey's crisis, and her discussing her feelings with her older brother. The two siblings are smart, well-educated, brilliant. But they aren't happy.
Dialogues throw their weight around, they are lively and brilliant, a bit surreal. I appreciated a lot more this one instead of The catcher in the rye, more witty the mindset and more interesting the characters. It's a very interesting book. Not very long, I needed not so much time to read it. But... very nice.
