Lette quelle recensioni, soprattutto una che ricordo esserci stata ma non mi ricordo di chi fosse, l'ho messo nella mia lista dei libri da leggere.
E' un libro non certo allegro per il tema che tratta, e mi sembra quasi un segno averlo finito il primo giorno di primavera, allo scoccare la fine del buio e del freddo dell'inverno. E' molto interessante, ognuno dei capitoli in cui è diviso racconta in parallelo un cambiamento di abitazione della autrice, un aspetto della sua vita solitaria a New York, quindi un aspetto della solitudine e degli artisti che sulla solitudine hanno creato la loro arte. I più famosi sono ovviamente Edward Hopper e Andy Warhol, ma non dubito che anche gli altri nomi siano altrettanto famosi per chi è più esperto d'arte di me. Per non parlare di studi di psicologi e psichiatri che vengono trattati nel corso dei capitoli per spiegare a livello scientifico la solitudine e i suoi effetti sull'essere umano.
E' un saggio sulla solitudine, insieme a un libro d'arte sui maggiori artisti della scena newyorkese che della solitudine hanno fatto il loro lavoro.
L'ho trovato molto bello, non facile da leggere, non sicuramente una lettura leggera. Mi sono ritrovata varie volte a cercare di capire come le vite di questi artisti così estremi potesse essere. Per quanto chiunque di noi, nel suo modo personalissimo, abbia sperimentato la solitudine, credo che queste vite siano lontanissime da noi, così estreme, così piene di significato e così disperatamente alla ricerca di qualcosa che sconfigga la solitudine.

After the release of this book, I happened to read some very positive reviews. I say that it happened to me because the theme of the book is not one of those that immediately attracts me and therefore it is more likely that I was attracted by some review found by chance while I was wandering through blogs or Instagram posts.
Read those reviews, especially one that I remember having been there but I don't remember who it was, I put it on my list of books to read.
It is certainly not a cheerful book for the theme it deals with, and it seems to me almost a sign to have finished it on the first day of spring, with the end of the darkness and the cold of winter. It is very interesting, each of the chapters in which it is divided tells in parallel a change of residence of the author, an aspect of her solitary life in New York, therefore an aspect of solitude and of the artists who have created their art on solitude. The most famous are obviously Edward Hopper and Andy Warhol, but I do not doubt that the other names are equally famous for those who are more expert in art than me. Not to mention the studies of psychologists and psychiatrists who are nominated during the chapters to explain the solitude and its effects on human beings on a scientific level.
It is an essay about solitude, together with an art book on the major artists of the New York scene who have done their work from solitude.
I've found it very beautiful, not easy to read, certainly not light reading. I found myself several times trying to understand how the lives of these extreme artists could be. As much as any of us, in his very personal way, has experienced loneliness, I believe that these lives are very far away from us, so extreme, so full of meaning and so desperately in search of something that defeats loneliness.
