Questo libro è una raccolta di saggi della Gay, di cui il primo e l'ultimo sono dedicati esplicitamente all'argomento del titolo del libro, gli altri sono punti di vista su razza e razzismo, questioni di genere, donne nere, e anche serie tv, film, libri, e tornei di giochi. C'è il suo punto di vista a 1000 gradi sul mondo contemporaneo, con tanta ironia e anche tanta rabbia su degli argomenti così importanti e che la toccano in prima persona, come il razzismo e come vengono trattati e rappresentati gli uomini e le donne di colore.
Devo ammettere che alcuni di questi saggi li ho bellamente saltati, come quando parlava di serie tv che non avevo visto, o di tornei di giochi (di ruolo? di carte?) che mi interessavano meno. Ma ho letto religiosamente ogni parola su argomenti che per lei sono di quotidiano interesse e su cui io, donna bianca che vive in Europa, conosce meno come il razzismo in America. C'è sempre da imparare da chi vive una vita in un contesto che in molte parti è diverso dal tuo.

Bad Feminist loves pink, loves males, loves to shave, likes clothes, does all those things that the stereotype of a militant feminist imposes. And that is precisely a stereotype, because to be perfection in any field is never possible and it is only an excuse for those who criticize that position to do it even more to belittle it.
Roxane Gay declares herself a bad feminist, but better bad feminist like her than not feminist at all.
This book is a collection of essays by Gay, of which the first and the last are explicitly dedicated to the subject of the book title, the others are views on race and racism, gender issues, black women, and even TV shows, movies, books, and game tournaments. There is her point of view at 1000 degrees on the contemporary world, with so much irony and also a lot of anger on such important topics that touch her in first person, such as racism and how men and women of color are treated and represented.
I must admit that I skipped some of these essays, like when she spoke of TV series that I haven't seen, or of tournaments of games (of role? Of cards?) That interested me less. But I read religiously every word on topics that are of daily interest to her and on which I, a white woman who lives in Europe, knows less as racism in America. There is always something to learn from those who live a life in a context that in many parts is different from yours.
