Devo ammettere che mi aspettavo un libro molto diverso. Mi aspettavo la descrizione di quella che era la bella vita della gioventù negli anni '20, mi aspettavo resoconti di feste scintillanti e grandi gite nelle macchine del periodo, mi aspettavo paillettes e bocchini di sigaretta e nastri tra i capelli. Certo, tutto questo è presente, proprio perchè era quella l'atmosfera negli anni '20 tra i ricchi giovani americani. Ma c'è di più. C'è l'amore disperato e illuso di Gatsby, c'è Daisy, che prima gioca, poi illude, poi scompare quando tutto si fa serio. C'è un uomo che fa di tutto per essere non com'è, ma come lei vorrebbe che fosse. E c'è una donna che prima fa cambiare, poi accetta, poi sparisce. E c'è un io narrante, spettatore delle vicende, l'uomo comune di fronte a personaggi stravaganti.
Bel libro, a questo punto credo mi toccherà andare a vederlo al cinema.

The Great Gatsby was in my wishlist for a very long time. It was there, I faffed about waiting for the will to read it. Now, just because everyone speaks about the movie with Leonardo di Caprio and because Newton Compton has published it for a little price, I decide it's the moment. And so, here I am to speak about my feelings about a classic of United States literature.
I must admit that I had the idea of a very different book. I imagined the description of the beautiful life of the 1920s youth, reports of sparkling parties and cigarette holders and ribbons. Of course, this is in, because this was the atmosphere in the 1920s between the rich young americans. But there is more. The desperate and deceived love of Gatsby, there is Daisy, that first plays, than misleads and then disappears when things get harder. There is a man that do everything he can to appear what he is not, but how she wants he was. And there is a first person narrator, event's watcher, the normal man in front of extravagant characters.
Beautiful book, at the end I will watch the movie too.
