Di questo libro ho apprezzato particolarmente l'introduzione, il saggio critico di James Joyce e la postfazione. Ci sono dentro la vita e soprattutto dei momenti più profondi della vita di Wilde: il processo, riportato qui quasi parola per parola, con un Wilde prima sicuro di sè e strafottente e poi messo alla berlina e poi all'angolo dall'avvocato. E poi, c'è la fine di tutto, il funerale, triste e quasi nascosto, di colui che invece dell'avere un pubblico che pendeva dalle sua labbra aveva fatto il suo stile di vita.
Se mai ci sarà un altro Oscar Wilde, spero di avere la fortuna di poterlo ascoltare e l'intelligenza di capirlo e apprezzarlo.

This book doesn't need introductions or my modest review. I think that this book is present in every bookshelf in every house, we sometimes read few words or we use it when we have doubts like "How was that quote about love/art/women?". The majority are very famous, as the super-famous "I can resist anything except temptation" or less known, quotes that are more deliberations than bon-mots. But his appeal, his wit and his brilliant intellect, will never die.
I really appreciate the introductive essay by James Joyce and the afterword. You can find the life and the deepest moments in Wilde's life: the process, reported here almost word by word, we can see Oscar that, in the first moment, appears confident and impertinent and then, at the end, shamed. And, at the end of everything, the funeral, sad and hidden, of a man that made his lifestyle by having an audience hanging off his words.
If will ever be another Oscar Wilde, I hope to be lucky enough to listen him and be smart enough to understand and appreciate him.
