Susie Salmon viene uccisa da un vicino di casa quando ha solo 14 anni. L'assassino ci viene svelato già dalle prime pagine: il signor George Harvey. Sappiamo tutto da subito: di come lui l'ha rapita, poi uccisa e di come si sia liberato del corpo. Ho già detto, non è un romanzo giallo. Alice Sebold ci racconta quello che è successo dopo. Ci racconta di Susie, del suo Cielo, del suo guardare dall'alto, della sua impotenza. E poi della famiglia Salmon, dei loro modi, molto diversi ma tutti assolutamente plausibili, di reagire. E dei suoi amici. E di come la vita vada avanti. Di come riposino in pace, i vivi e i morti.
Un romanzo triste, a tratti crudo. Ma bellissimo, commovente e poi ispiratore di grande speranza per il futuro.

My readings, as I think those of every "strong reader", go for thematic cycle. Currently, for example, about my choices of fiction, I'm more conveyed to crime novels. This "The Lovely Bones", however, I'm not sure if it's definable in this way. Well, there is a murder and a murderer, but actually the focus of the book is not the inquiries concluded with a detention. But the thoughts of the victim.
Susie Salmon is killed by a neighbor when she is just 14 years old. The murderer is unveiled already in the first pages: Mr George Harvey. WE know everything from the beginning: how he kidnaps her, how he kills her and how he gets rid of her body. I alreaedy told you, this is not a crime novel. Alice Sebold tells us what happens after. Tells us about Susie, her personal Heaven, her watching from on high, her helplessness. And then the Salmon's family, their ways, so different but real, to react. And her friends. And how life goes on. How they rest in peace, life and death.
A sad novel, sometimes cruel. But beautiful, touching and inspiring of hope for the future.
