Da allora, se ne è parlato in lungo e in largo, sviscerando ogni dettaglio. E sono nate numerosissime, per non dire troppe, teorie su una possibile cospirazione del governo statunitense che sarebbe l'unico e solo responsabile della strage.
Questo libro non vuole certo essere la fonte suprema della verità su quel disgraziato giorno, ma vuole chiarire i punti che possono essere spiegati, con un approccio scientifico e fornendo le prove e i riferimenti di ogni affermazione. Il crollo delle Torri Gemelle e della torre definita WTC7, il Pentagono, l'altro aereo che si è schiantato in Pennsylvania, tutto viene ripercorso nei minimi dettagli e spiegato, e le teorie complottistiche confutate.
Gli esperti chiamati a svolgere questo compito non sono certo gente che ha raccolto le informazioni basandosi su quello che c'è su Internet, ma sono persone che hanno sulle spalle anni di esperienza nei campi dell'ingegneria elettronica e spaziale, fisici e storici della scienza. Inoltre, il volume è arricchito dai tre saggi finali di Lorenzo Montali, psicologo sociale; Umberto Eco e Piergiorgio Odifreddi.
Leggere questo libro è stato un importante arricchimento, sia di cultura scientifica sia di approccio, di sguardo alla realtà. Confermo di non aver mai dato avvallo a queste teorie, ritenendole io abbastanza campate in aria e nate anche da un sentimento a priori anti-statunitense purtroppo fin troppo diffuso.
Devo ammettere che ho preso questo libro spinta dal nome del Prof. Eco, eppure gli interventi che ho apprezzato maggiormente sono proprio quelli dove si affrontano direttamente queste "teorie" e si smantellano pezzo per pezzo. Lasciatemelo dire, in giro c'è davvero gente con troppa fantasia.
Consiglio questo libro davvero a chiunque, che ci crediate oppure no.

This book has no wish to be the supreme source of truth about that tragic day, but wants to clarify the inexplicable points by a scientific approach and giving evidence for every statement. The Twin Towers and the WTC7's collapse, the Pentagon, the other airplane's crash in Pennsylvania, everything is recalled in the minimal details and explained, and the conspiracy theories are discredited.
The experts called to carry out this task aren't people who collected informations on Internet, but people who has on their shoulders years of experience in electronic and spatial engineering, physicists and science historians. Also, the book is enhanced by the three final essays by Lorenzo Montali, social psychologist; Umberto Eco and Piergiorgio Odifreddi.
Reading this book was an important enrichment, both of scientific culture and of perspective, of gaze to reality. I can confirm I never had any kind of support to this theories, because pretty airy-fairy and result of a preconceived anti-American feeling, unfortunately too much common.
I must admit I've read this book because Prof. Eco, yet I appreciated more the essays dealing directly with this "theories" and discrediting these piece by piece. Let me say it, there is a lot of people with too much imagination.
I suggest this book to everyone, whether you believe it or not.
