Ad aiutare l'anziana donna ormai al suo ultimo giorno, ci saranno padre George Fallow, Bobby Blankenship, il vice sceriffo John Jasper Johnson e soprattutto lei, Claudia Jean Darling. E toccherà a lei fare pace con i fantasmi del passato della famiglia e rivivere tanti ricordi nascosti in fondo al suo cuore.
Un libro emozionante, interessante, toccante, vivace. Personaggi mai piatti, storie che si intrecciano, la vita di una piccola cittadina del Texas narrata in modo eccellente. Bellissimo.

To be honest, I thought that this book was lighter than it really is. It's a sort of women's saga with the mainest character of all: Faith Ann Bass.
Faith is the heiress of the most important family of Bass, the little town in Texas that has been created by a forefather of her. Faith has always been the richest, the most admired, the most envied. But now, an old lady, she is alone and sick. Her (not too much) beloved husband died, her son died in a terrible accident and her daughter, Claudia Jean, is gone.
In addition, Faith can hear God telling her to give away all her stuff. This is the way the book is starting, with the dazed garage sale of the family's antiquity on the front-garden. Tiffany lamps bought for few dollars, mahogany tables, books, diamonds jewels, sculptures. Everything sold for nothing and the only explanation is "An agreement is an agreement". To help the old lady in her last day, Father George Fallow, Bobby Blankenship, the deputy sheriff John Jasper Johnson and her, Claudia Jean Darling. She will make peace with family's past ghosts and re-experience many memories hidden in her heart. A touching, interesting, moving, lively book. Characters never dull, linked stories, a life in a small town in Texas told in excellent way. Gorgeous.
