Non credo che mi aspettassi qualcosa di preciso da questo libro, scelto, lo ammetto, praticamente solo per il titolo che mi incuriosiva.
Invece ho trovato la versione svedese di uno dei libri tra i miei preferiti, un capolavoro della letteratura italiana: Il Nome della Rosa.
Il protagonista è Lars Levi Laestidius, pastore, botanico, intellettuale.
Egli prende in casa il noaidi Jussi, uno dei pochi a trattarlo come un essere umano, gli insegna a leggere e a scrivere e lo prende come suo aiutante. Tra i due nasce un rapporto come tra padre e figlio e Jussi sarà di aiuto al pastore quando una serie di assassini verranno a turbare la tranquillità del paese, mettendo a rischio le giovani donne. Laestidius indaga sui fatti, raccogliendo prove scientifiche, senza fermarsi alla prima impressione, mettendo la sua mente e il suo ingegno al servizio della verità. Purtroppo dovrà scontrarsi con un paese in cui questi valori non vengono osservati e in cui lo straniero Jussi viene visto con diffidenza...
Non posso dire di più perché essendo un giallo sarebbe dare troppe informazioni, ma è un libro insieme di una tenerezza, di una bellezza, di una intelligenza rare.
Ottima storia da una ottima casa editrice che mai delude.

I don't think I expected anything specific from this book, chosen, I admit it, practically only because of the title.
Instead I found the Swedish version of one of my favorite books, a masterpiece of Italian literature: The Name of the Rose.
The protagonist is Lars Levi Laestidius, pastor, botanist, intellectual.
He takes home the noaidi Jussi, one of the few to treat him as a human being, teaches him to read and write and takes him as his helper. A relationship arises between the two, as between father and son and Jussi will be of help to the shepherd when a series of murderers will disturb the tranquility of the little town, putting young women at risk. Laestidius investigates the facts, gathering scientific evidences, without stopping at the first impression, putting his mind and his wit at the service of truth. Unfortunately, he will have to clash with a country where these values ​​are not observed and where the foreigner Jussi is viewed with distrust...
I cannot say more because being a crime novel would be giving too much information, but it is a book of a rare tenderness, beauty, intelligence.
Excellent story from an excellent publishing house that never disappoints.

Solo dopo aver iniziato le prime pagine, ho pensato che io di questo libro avevo già sentito parlare. E in effetti il titolo italiano non aiuta molto, ma questo volumetto è stato un caso mondiale come recita la fascetta. Si è parlato molto di questo libro perchè affronta il tema del rimettere a posto le proprie cose, i propri documenti, sbarazzarsi di roba inutile, quando si è in età avanzata e si vuole lasciare tutto a posto per il momento della nostra morte.
Il fatto è che il libro non è per niente cupo o deprimente, ma è proprio come vi immaginate il libro di una simpatica signora avanti con gli anni. E' intelligente, educato, divertente, sentivo un gran calore confortante leggendolo.
E' pieno di buon senso, pieno di giusti consigli che possono applicarsi a chi, come me, ancora non è tra gli 80 e i 100 anni ma si rende conto, guardandosi attorno, di avere una casa piena di cose per la maggior parte inutili.
Inizierò sicuramente a fare una pulizia stanza per stanza, e a rendere la mia casa non obbligatoriamente pronta per la mia morte ma una casa accogliente, piena di vita, dove trovarmi a mio perfetto agio.

Only after starting the first few pages, I thought that I had already heard about this book. And in fact the Italian title doesn't help much, but this little book was a worldwide case as the band tells. Much has been said about this book because it deals with the issue of tidying up one's things, one's documents, getting rid of useless stuff, when one is old and wanting to leave everything in place for the time of our death.
The fact is that the book is not at all gloomy or depressing, but it is just as you imagine the book of a nice old lady. It is intelligent, polite, funny, I felt a great comforting warmth reading it.
It is full of common sense, full of right advice that can be applied to those who, like me, are not yet between 80 and 100 years old but realize, looking around, that they have a house full of things for the most part useless.
I will certainly start cleaning room by room, and make my home not necessarily ready for my death but a cozy home, full of life, where I can be at my perfect ease.

Lei non si chiama Miriam. Perchè si chiama Malika. Perchè è stata una rom, una sorella, una cugina. Prima di quel treno maledetto verso il campo di concentramento di Ravensbruck.
E così Malika, ormai Miriam, si deve reinventare. Deve inventarsi. E soprattutto, deve imparare a sopravvivere.
Un libro che è venuto dopo un periodo in cui ho abbandonato una serie di libri, nessuno di loro abbastanza interessante da venir continuato fino alla fine. Questo no, questo era troppo importante. Una storia importante su un tema delicatissimo e che temo mai sarà solo nei libri di storia. Sopravvivenza in un mondo in cui essere di una certa "razza", di una certa religione, di una certa nazionalità, è ancora un dato con cui fare i conti. Per non parlare dei rigurgiti (sì, proprio quelli che portano al vomito) di fascismo e nazismo a cui stiamo assistendo. Historia magistra vitae. Ma qualcuno quel libro di storia si ostina a tenerlo chiuso.
Le pagine nel campo di concentramento sono probabilmente le più dure che leggo da un bel po' di tempo. Impossibile nascondere l'orrore. Impossibile non provare pietà verso queste donne che un passo dopo l'altro, piano piano e con grande difficoltà, cercano di sopravvivere e tornare a vivere.
Un libro che ho amato molto. Un libro importante.

Not to mention the regurgitation (yes, just those that lead to vomit) of fascism and Nazism we are witnessing. Historia magistra vitae. But someone stubbornly keeps that history book closed.
The pages in the concentration camp are probably the hardest I've read for quite some time. The horror cannot be hidden. Impossible not to feel pity towards these women who step by step, slowly and with great difficulty, try to survive and come back to life.
A book that I loved a lot. An important book.
