Ovviamente, ho letto tanto sull'argomento. Ma ci ho messo un po' a iniziare questo qui, perchè a essere sincera un libro sui vulcani, per quanto d'Islanda, mi sembrava una lettura molto noiosa. E invece, ho trovato una delle letture più interessanti su questa terra magica.
A parte le schede più tecniche sui vulcani di cui ho letto solo se sono ancora in attività o meno, e mi scuso con l'autore che sicuramente avrà profuso tempo ed energie nello scriverle, e l'epilogo, di cui probabilmente ho capito tre righe in tre pagine. Ma il 90% del libro è stato una meravigliosa scoperta.
Per ogni vulcano, sono 47 e io ne conoscevo due, c'è una storia di uomini, di fuoco e di caducità. Ci sono mitologie e storie straordinarie di persone normali. Ci sono giganti, scrittori, calciatori. C'è solo un'infinitesima parte di quella che è la magia e la storia dell'Islanda.
E' un libro talmente bello, talmente magico, talmente interessante che ogni dubbio iniziale è scomparso dopo poche pagine. L'ho profondamente amato. Come amo l'Islanda.

Iceland is one of my dreamed destinations. It intrigues me, it is a land so different from everything, so isolated but at the same time so modern and ahead with regards to civil rights and education, that it can be called the perfect land. Also, a few years ago I discovered the presence of a lovely town named Hella like me, and I saw this as a sign of destiny.
Obviously, I've read so much on the subject. But it took me a while to start this here, because to be honest a book about volcanoes, as far as Iceland is concerned, seemed to me a very boring reading. And instead, I found one of the most interesting readings about this magical land.
Apart from the more technical cards on the volcanoes that I only read if they are still in operation or not, and I apologize to the author who surely will have spent a lot of time and effort writing them, and the epilogue, of which I probably understood three lines in three pages. But 90% of the book was a wonderful discovery.
For each volcano, they are 47 and I knew two, there is a story of men, of fire and transience. There are mythologies and extraordinary stories of normal people. There are giants, writers, footballers. There is only an infinitesimal part of what is the magic and history of Iceland.
It is such a beautiful book, so magical, so interesting that any initial doubt has disappeared after a few pages. I loved it deeply. How I love Iceland.
