Per Roberto Calasso, ho sempre avuto una sorta di timore reverenziale. Per me, è uno di quegli intellettuali come Umberto Eco, talmente elevato nella cultura che capita che non capisca un'acca di quello che dicono.
Avevo adorato Le nozze di Cadmo e Armonia, forte almeno lì della mia conoscenza della mitologia. Ma devo ammettere che ho iniziato altri suoi libri e non li ho mai finiti perchè troppo ostici per quel determinato momento.
Ma, di nuovo forte del mio amore per i libri, questo non potevo non leggerlo. E ho scoperto un lato di Calasso più affine a me, uno con cui ti ritrovi sul divano di casa di fronte alla libreria e iniziate a chiacchierare sulle qualità della stessa. E da lì passate a tutto quello che riguarda i libri, dalle recensioni alle biblioteche.
Quattro saggi molto brevi ma di altissima qualità e interesse. Ma soprattutto, realizzare che alla cultura di Calasso non arriverò mai. Ma è bello godere delle parole di chi quella cultura ce l'ha.

For Roberto Calasso, I've always had a kind of awe. For me, he is one of those intellectuals like Umberto Eco, so elevated in knowledge that it happens that I don't understand a bit of what they say.
I adored The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony, thanks to my passion for mythology. But I must admit that I started other books by him and I never finished them because they were too difficult for that particular moment.
But, again thanks to my love for books, I couldn't not read this. And I discovered a side of Calasso that is more akin to me, like I can find myself on a sofa at his house in front of the library and starting a conversation about its contents. And from there you move on to everything related to books, starting with reviews and libraries.
Four very short essays but of the highest quality and interest. But above all, realizing that I will never reach the level of Calasso. But it's nice to enjoy the words of those who have that knowledge.
