Credevo di aver letto tanti libri di questo genere e sinceramente, al primo sguardo, non ritenevo questo libro diverso da tutti gli altri. Dopo il primo capitolo pensavo di aver già inquadrato la protagonista e già pensavo di sapere come sarebbe andato a finire e tutto. Su qualcosa ho avuto ragione, il finale era quello che mi sono immaginata e cosí anche il carattere del personaggio femminile non protagonista. Ma piú andavo avanti con le pagine, più mi rendevo conto che questo libro era diverso da tutti gli altri.
La protagonista ha una storia alle spalle e una sensibilità tale che non poteva non conquistarmi. Laura ha dentro di sé una tristezza infinita, ma allo stesso tempo é fortissima e determinata. Ci vuole infatti una forza straordinaria per vivere una vita che non é la tua vita...
I personaggi intorno a lei sono tutti diversissimi, ognuno con un suo preciso carattere ma che si intrecciano perfettamente gli uni con gli altri. I due mondi, il Suffolk e Verbier, sono agli antipodi, ma entrambi svolgono una decisa influenza sulla protagonista nello svolgimento della storia del romanzo e della sua personale.
L'idea della collana, intorno a cui é concentrata la storia, é intelligente e nuova.
Il finale... beh, mi é successa una cosa che non mi capitava ormai da un bel po' e che mi ha stupita: mi sono commossa. Ebbene sí, ha toccato corde che mi hanno dato una grande emozione. Insomma, promosso a pieni voti.

 In my opinion, I tried every book of this kind and, at the first sight, I didn't consider this book different. After the first chapter I was sure to know exactly the main character and I thought to already know what was going to happen. I was right about something, the end was exactly what was in my head, and so the personality of the co-star. But, when I was going on with the pages, I discovered the book very different from the other ones.
The main character has a story behind her shoulder and such a sensitivity that it's impossible not conquering me. Laura hides inside a big sadness, but at the same time she is strong and determined. You need a great strenght to live a life that is not your life...
The characters around her are very different, everyone with a very specific personality but that mix perfectly one with each other. The two worlds, Suffolk and Verbier, are just the opposite, but both influence deeply Laura in the plot and in her personality. The central idea of the necklace is very smart and new.
The end... well, something happened that was such a surprise for me: this happy ending really moved me. It touched me so deeply. So, glowing report.

Quanto mi piacciono i libri di Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti!È tutto per un insieme di motivi. Mi piacciono le storie di perone comuni, personaggi che potremmo incontrare davvero nella vita di tutti i giorni: la vicina anziana, la casalinga insoddisfatta. Mi piacciono i sentimenti molto umani che narra: le piccole invidie tra parenti, le piccole meschinità tra coniugi, le piccole beghe delle persone comuni. Ma anche se sono personaggi comuni con comuni sentimenti, lei riesce a renderli interessanti. Non so come faccia. E dire che a mente fredda questi personaggi non sono nemmeno interessanti. Cosa sarà, allora? Non lo so. Ma so che mi piacciono. E tanto.

 I really love Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti's books! There are a lot reasons. I like common people stories, people I can meet like everyday: the old lady neighbour, the dissatisfied housewife. I love the human feelings that she tells: little envies between relatives, little pettiness between spouses, little problems between common people. But although they are common characters with common feelings, she is able to make them interesting. I don't know how she does. Calculatingly, these characters are not even unique. What's the reason, then? I don't know. But I love them. A lot.

In genere, sull'arte ho delle idee abbastanza chiare. Mi piace molto l'arte classica, la perfezione delle atletiche statue greche raffiguranti dei e giovani atleti, la possanza dei fisici e la perfezione dei lineamenti. Credo che in quel periodo si sia definita la perfezione artistica, sia per la scultura sia per l'architettura.
In genere, l'arte medievale mi piace pur conoscendola meno bene e ho una vera e propria passione per l'arte moderna. Credo che il periodo racchiuso in questa definizione sia stato il periodo di massimo splendore dell'arte. Il periodo dei tre grandissimi Michelangelo/Leonardo/Raffaello é stato un periodo benedetto dal Dio dell'Arte, picchi di bellezza e di perfezione assoluti. Capolavori di una grandezza assoluta, qualcosa di assolutamente irripetibile e frutto di un talento e di una mano fortunatissima.
Mentre invece, quella che viene definita "arte contemporanea" beh... Ok lo ammetto, mi fa schifo. Quadri che non capisci da che parte si appendono oppure tele totalmente bianche oppure tele bucate per rappresentare "la depressione dell'anno 2013". Sculture raffiguranti capre con una ruota attorno alla vita o cerchioni di bicicletta sopra una sedia. Grazie, ma no. Un no deciso.
Ovviamente, nella definizione rientrano artisti e opere d'arte geniali. Solo per citare i presenti in questa libro, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Umberto Boccioni.  E solo da Flavio Caroli mi farei convincere a vedere tutta l'arte contemporanea accettabile. Ho visto tutti i suoi interventi alla trasmissione Che tempo che fa, e l'ho adorato. Anche se non apprezzo sempre le scelte, riesce a farmi trovare interessante qualunque quadro raccontando la storia che vi sta dietro, i significati delle singole scelte fatte dal pittore, i motivi per cui quel quadro é così. Adoro scoprire i significati nascosti nelle opere d'arte, come quella tela parla e scopre i suoi significati più nascosti. Ho sempre amato questo studio dell'opera, che sia "Amor sacro e amor profano" di Tiziano o "L'enigma dell'oracolo" di Giorgio De Chirico.
Se siete appassionati di arte o se volete cambiare idea sull'arte contemporanea, o solo volete vedere cose belle, leggete questo libro.

 In general, I know what I like about art. I love classical art, the perfection of Greek athletic sculptures representing gods and young athletes, the powerful bodies and the perfect features. I think that in those days humankind reached the artistic perfection, both sculpture and architecture.
I like medieval art too, but I know it less than classical, and I am really passionate about modern art. I think that the period of years related to the definition of "modern art" was the greatest time for art. The time of Michelangelo/Leonardo/Raffaello was blessed by the God of Art, edge of beauty and perfection. Absolute masterpieces, something unique and result of blessed hands.
In the meanwhile, about "contemporary art", well, I don't like it at all. Pictures that you could hang upside down and nothing changes, totally white paintings or with a hole to represent the "2013's depression". Sculptures of a goat with a pneumatic around the hip or bycicle rim on a chair. Thanks, but no. At all.
Of course, the definition is related to brilliant artists and pieces, too. Just to tell about who's in this book, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Umberto Boccioni. Just Flavio Caroli could convince me about the acceptability of contemporary art. I have seen every interview at the tv programme "Che tempo che fa" and I love him. I don't appreciate every choice, but he is able to make me interested to every painting just telling about the story behind it, the meanings of the choices made by the painter, why that painting is what it is. I love discovering the hidden meanings in masterpieces, how they "speak", both "Amor sacro e amor profano" by Tiziano and "L'enigma dell'oracolo" by Giorgio de Chirico.
If you are art lover or if you just want change your mind about contemporary art, or you just want to look beautiful pieces, I suggest you to read this book.

Conoscevo già il seguitissimo blog dell'autrice "Ma Che Davvero?" e il libro mi ha conquistata ancora di più! Divertente, ironico ma assolutamente sincero e a volte causa di ansia pre-qualunque-pensiero-di-gravidanza nel raccontare il periodo della maternità e tutte le difficoltà di due neo genitori con una neonata. Il ritratto che ne esce è quello di una mamma come potrebbe essere ognuna di noi, con la sua voglia di rimanere sè stessa e non solo "La Mamma Di...", con la sua carenza di sonno e con il suo amore sconfinato per la piccola Viola, chiamata amorevolmente Porpi, diminutivo di Polpetta. Un viaggio nel mondo di una neo mamma ironica, arguta e intelligente, un libro di cui si spera leggere presto il seguito, perchè questo l'ho divorato in due giorni :)

The world of an ironic new-mum, witty and smart, a book of which I would like to read a sequel, because I finished this in two days :)

I commenti a questo libro in copertina e nel retro di copertina recitano "La nuova Bridget Jones profuma di curry", "Più incasinato di Il mio grosso grasso matrimonio greco".
Sinceramente non so se avrei scelto esattamente queste parole per recensire questo libro. Innanzittutto, la protagonista è lontana anni luce da Bridget Jones e dal suo modo di vivere.Quanto lei fuma, beve e va a letto con gli uomini sbagliati, tanto Shelina è morigerata e intende vivere una vita seguendo le regole della sua fede.
Ciò che accomuna le due donne è la cittadinanza britannica e il fatto di essere alla ricerca dell'uomo giusto.
Nel caso di Shelina, la ricerca passa attraverso delle tappe che sono comuni a tutta la sua comunità. Tutta la famiglia è partecipe della scelta della ragazza e si attiva per cercare informazioni sul background familiare del pretendente. Lei stessa compila una lista di sei requisiti imprescindibili, ma il buon senso del padre le suggerirà di accontentarsi di quattro.
La lista e le storie dei candidati respinti è la parte più ironica del libro, storie e situazioni in cui probabilmente molte ragazze single non avranno difficoltà a ritrovarsi.
Per quanto mi riguarda, le parti che più mi hanno interessato sono quelle dove Shelina spiega e illustra quello che è l'Islam. Spesso e volentieri ci fermiamo a quello che ne viene spiegato e raccontato da tv e telegiornali, ci fermiamo all'Islam più bigotto e esacerbato. Shelina ci mostra l'Islam moderato, quello davvero fedele alla religione dove i comandamenti riguardano vivere una vita buona, creare un mondo migliore, in pace e in armonia con gli altri. E' a questi comandamenti che si attiene per vivere la sua vita e per ricercare colui che sarà il suo futuro marito.
Un libro che parte da quello che potremmo chiamare un motivo frivolo, ma che in realtà è una bellissima spiegazione su quella che è la ricerca del Vero Amore in un contesto lontano da quello a cui sono abituata. Di chick lit ha poco e niente, e per fortuna.

The comments on the cover of this book are "The new Bridget Jones smells nice of curry", "Messier than My big fat greek wedding".
To be honest, I'm not sure if I would choose the same words for this review.
First of all, the main character is light years far from Bridget Jones and her lifestyle. How much Bridget smokes, drinks and sleeps with wrong men, so Shelina is moderate and with the will to live a life following the rules of her faith.
What's similar is that both of them are British and that they are looking for the right man.
For Shelina, the research passes through steps in common with her community. The entire family takes part of her choice and is proactive in looking for informations about the family background of the suitor. She makes a list of six essential requirements, but her father's wisdom will suggest her to be satisfied with four.
The list and the suitor's stories is the most ironic part of the book, good stories that are probably in common with a lot of single girls.
In my opinion, the most interesting part is when she explains her faith. Usually, we set up our knowledge on what is told and explained by mass media, we just see the most sanctimonious and aggravated Islam. Shelina shows us the moderate Islam, the one really devoted to a faith where the commandments are to live a good life, create a better world, in peace and harmony with the others. She lives her life and looks for her future husbands based on these commandments.
A book that begins with a frivolous purpose, but that really is a beautiful explanation about the research of the True Love in a different context from the one that I am used to. It is far from the "chick lit", fortunately.

Inizialmente, avevo visto solo la copertina raffigurante un cagnolino che gioca e ho pensato che fosse un libro dedicato soprattutto al cane, il rapporto tra cane e padrone protagonista del libro. Amo gli animali ma non sono una fan dei libri sui cani e devo ammettere che se posso li evito. Mi sono detta "se sarà davvero brutto posso sempre lasciarlo dopo un paio di pagine". Invece l'ho finito in dun paio di giorni!
Juliet è una giovane vedova che non riesce a farsi una ragione della morte del suo amato Ben e, soprattutto, si sente in colpa per aver litigato con lui poco prima che morisse. Le sue giornate trascorrono di fronte alla tv, in una casa in cui manca anche la doccia, in quanto marito e moglie si trovavano nel pieno della ristrutturazione della casa e Juliet non si è mai sentita pronta a riprenderli senza di lui. La sua famiglia è preoccupata per lei e sceglie di aiutarla con l'aiuto di un nuovo amico e di un vecchio amico, il cane Minton. E tra una passeggiata e l'altra, un lavoro di dog sitter e di baby sitter, le preoccupazioni possono ridimensionarsi...
Adoro Juliet. Una protagonista vera, nessun tratto che possa farla considerare sempre e solo un'eroina da romanzo ma anzi, una donna che piano piano, passo passo, è riuscita a ritrovare la sua serenità e la sua vita. E così, finisco per guardare anche gli altri protagonisti sotto la luce di Juliet. Tutti personaggi comunissimi e normalissimi, niente di improbabile e esagerato.
Insomma, un romanzo delicato, piacevole e rasserenante. Eh sì, in questo caso il cane è davvero il migliore amico della donna!!

 At a first moment, I've just seen the cover pictured a little and cute dog playing and I thought it was a book about dogs, the relationship between a dog and its owner. I love animals but I am not a big fan of books about dogs and I have to admit that if I can I escape them. I told: "If it is really bad I can leave it after few pages". Instead, I finished it in few days!
Juliet is a young widow that can't come to terms with the death of her beloved Ben and, most of all, she feels guilty because they argued just before he died. She spends her day in front of the tv, in a house without the shower, because they were in the middle of the refurbishment and Juliet is never felt ready to go on without him. her family is worried about her and decides to help her with a new friend and an old friend, the dog Minton. And between strolls and new jobs as dog-sitter and baby-sitter, her worries get into perspective...
I love Juliet. A real main character, no way you can see her just like a novel heroine but, a woman that step by step is able to find her serenity and life. So, I finish to look at other characters with Juliet's eyes. Very normal and average characters, nothing excessive or absurd.
A lovely, nice and calming novel. Well, in this case, the dog is the woman's best friend!

Chissà perchè i libri che parlano di pane, dolci e altro cibo sono sempre così... belli da leggere. Così rilassanti, così piacevoli. Mi danno lo stesso effetto del fare una torta, del mangiare il pane appena sfornato... come fanno?
Questo libro non sfugge alla norma. E' delizioso!
Wyn è una trentenne, sposata all'uomo che reputa il suo grande amore, un padre adorato ma che è morto quindici anni prima, una donna il cui mestiere nella vita è aiutare il marito in quelle che definiremmo "pubbliche relazioni" della sua società. Insomma, quello che Wyn fa è essere sempre perfetta agli eventi mondani e tessere relazioni sociali con le mogli dei soci di suo marito.
Ma un giorno David, il marito, decide che ne ha abbastanza. Vuole la sua totale indipendenze, vuola la libertà... una libertà bionda e molto attraente.
Wyn si ritrova di punto in bianco senza una casa, senza un marito, senza niente da fare... ma c'è una cosa che sa fare benissimo e da cui può ripartire: il pane. Del resto, ci sono sempre quelle conoscenze apprese in Francia...
Un libro molto, molto carino, adorabile, divertente, sexy, da leggere. Decisamente!

 I don't know exactly why but books about bread, sweets and food are always so... good to read! So relaxing, so lovely. They give me the same feeling of baking a pie, eating the fresh-baked bread... how do they do?
This book too. It's adorable!
Wyn is a 30 years old, married with the man she thinks being her true love, a beloved father that died fifteen years before. She is that kind of woman that works helping her husband in the "public relations" for his company. In other words, what Wyn does is always being perfect at high-society events and interlace social relationship with the wives of her husband's partners.
But one day David, her husband, decides it's enough for him. He wants his independence back, he wants freedom... a blonde and good looking freedom.
Wyn is abruptly without a house, an husband, with nothing to do... but there is one thing that she can do very well and that's her starting point: bread. Furthermore, she has a lot of knowledge about making bread from her trip in France...
A very nice book, lovely, funny, sexy, to read. Definitely!

In genere la Kinsella mi piace. Non sarà certo Hemingway o Proust, ma non credo che abbia ambizioni di questo tipo. I suoi libri sono sempre divertenti, di facile lettura, simpatici.
Non ho amato moltissimo I love Shopping... o meglio, mi è piaciuto ma detestavo cordialmente la protagonista. L'ho sempre trovata un po' troppo tonta per i miei gusti, roba che ogni volta avevo una gran voglia di pigliarla a sberle per farla rinsavire!
I libri firmati Sophie Kinsella mi sono piaciuti di più. Le protagoniste erano finalmente ragazze più assennate, a cui capitavano avventure divertenti e leggere.
I libri firmati Madeleine Wickham invece tendevano a essere più "profondi", passatemi il termine.
Questo libro... beh, devo dire che il mio commento per questo libro è in effetti un tantino negativo. Il fatto è che, per quanto possa sforzarmi, non riesco proprio a farmelo piacere. L'idea di fondo è assolutamente irreale, e ok questo ci può stare, però anche il resto del libro, come si sviluppa la trama, è proprio debole, poco movimentata, niente di interessante e/o intrigante. E se proprio vogliamo andare nei dettagli, come cavolo hai fatto a pensare che non fosse importante il dettaglio di essere sposata e di non aver divorziato? Non ho parole...

 In general, I loke Sophie Kinsella. She is not Hemingway or Proust of course, but I don't think she has this kind of purpose. Her books are always funny, easy reading, nice.
But I didn't love at all the Confessions of a Shopaholic... well, I liked it but I hated the main character. In my opinion, she is a bit dumb, I would like to slap her stupid face!
I preferred the other "Sophie Kinsella" books. The main characters are more serious girl, with funny and nice adventures.
The books by Madeleine Wickham are more... "intense", just to say.
This book... well, my comment for this one is pretty negative. I can't be able to find it nice. The main idea is unreal, and that's ok, but the rest of the book too, how the plot goes on, it's weak, nothing interesting or involving. And, if we want to talk about details, how the hell you can think it's not important the detail of being already married and not being divorced? No words...

Come un eminente giudice disse un po' di tempo fa "Essere una principessa non è un lavoro". Ma sicuramente, dopo aver letto questo libro, il primo pensiero nella vostra mente è che bisogna lavorare davvero tanto per avere lo stile di una principessa!
Cinzia Felicetti ci guida in un viaggio tra colori, tessuti, tonalità, vestiti e accessori. Ognuna di noi viene associata a una categoria a seconda della propria carnagione e della conformazione fisica, e per ognuna c'è un modello famoso da cui trarre ispirazione e diversi stili adatti a una specifica corporatura e personalità. L'autrice non lascia niente al caso.
Ogni categoria è poi divisa in sottocategorie, per non lasciare nessuna possibilità non schedata. Un lavoro certosino che non solo ci darà uno stile perfetto, ma grazie al quale svilupperemo anche una profonda conoscenza, di cosa ci sta meglio, di cosa ci valorizza di più e di cosa no.
Inoltre,ci siamo dimenticate le attenzioni verso noi stesse durante il percorso? Ogni cura e ogni coccola saranno solo e solamente per noi... e non è forse questo un trattamento degno di una principessa?
Un libro molto interessante, una lettura obbligata per ogni donna, non solo per auto-miglioramento, ma anche per i piccoli segreti di bellezza che vi sono contenuti. Un piccolo gioiello degno di una principessa!

Il termine esatto per definire questo libro è sicuramente "magico". Non solo per la storia in sè, piena di piccoli tocchi di magia, ma anche per la sensazione che lascia al lettore. E' un libro che ti imprigiona tra le sue pagine con piccoli lacci fatti di sapori, odori. Sapori e odori che non esistono ma che il lettore sembra sentire e che lo portano a non volersi staccare dalla pagina. E' arduo e difficile lasciare, anche solo per poco tempo, le sorelle Sidney e Claire Waverley senza sapere cosa succederà, quale sarà il loro futuro. E il magone sopraggiunge all'ultima pagina, quando la storia finisce, ma i lacci tra la storia e il lettore non si sono ancora spezzati. E si finisce per guardare con trepidazione qualunque albero di mele...

And the blues arrives at the last page, when the story finishes, but the knots between the story and the reader aren't yet broken. And at end you find yourself watching with trapidation every apple tree...

Arrivata più o meno a questo punto del blog, credo di avere ben chiaro in testa il genere di protagonista che non mi piace... Ecco, la protagonista di questo libro é esattamente di quel tipo! Ma mi spiegate come diavolo é possibile, dopo anni di emancipazione femminile, dopo aver scoperto che Le Principesse Disney non esistono, dopo Simone de Beauvoir, possibile che ancora esistano queste protagoniste? Perché io non me ne capacito!
Tra l'altro, il libro é anche ben scritto e fino a 10 pagine dalla fine mi piaceva. Addirittura, ero una di quelle che tifavano per la protagonista! Pensavo che finalmente si fosse dimenticata del suo amore adolescenziale e che il fatto di aver realizzato il suo sogno la aiutasse a capire che le persone crescono e cambiano, che gli amori adolescenziali chiusi così devono rimanere, crea minestra riscaldata non é mai buona... Niente. Parole al vento. Ma dico io, ma puoi ancora dopo anni piangere per un ragazzo che tu hai mollato perchè erano più le volte che ci litigavi e di cui non sapevi se ne sentivi la mancanza? Poi ci si chiede perché ancora crediamo a tutte le balle che ci raccontano gli uomini...
E la cosa che più mi dà fastidio é che il libro é anche scritto bene ed é anche carino... Non si possono togliere quelle ultime righe?

At this point of my life, I think I know exactly what kind of main character I don't like... this one is exactly that kind! How can be possible, after decades of women's liberation, after discovering that the Disney Princesses are fantasies, after Simone de Beauvoir, that this kind of women still are in? I can't believe it!
By the way, the book is well written and until ten pages to the end, I liked it. I was even of the girls that was cheering for the main character!
I was sure that she finally forgot her teenage love and that her dream fulfilment made her understand that people grows up and changes, that closed teenage loves are fine, that heated up soup is always the same old story... nothing. Empty words. How can you still cry for a guy that YOU dumped because it was a permanent fight and you didn't know if you missed him? Then people can't believe why we believe to every stupid lie men tell us...
The things that bothers me more is that this book is nice and well written... Can't we remove the last pages?

Questo libro mi ha lasciata un po' così. Sinceramente, dal titolo mi aspettavo un po' di più. Invece, il titolo c'entra come i cavoli a merenda. Mica si capisce chi dovrebbe essere questa cattiva ragazza che sceglie l'uomo giusto, sarà più che altro perchè di "uomini giusti" nel libro ce ne sono solo due ma sono entrambi al di sotto dei dieci anni. E forse a parte la padrona di casa, che più che cattiva la definirei sicuramente una donna tosta, di cattive ragazze non se ne vede proprio l'ombra. E sicuramente cattiva non è la protagonista, Ali. Studentessa di letteratura inglese, per pagarsi gli studi accetta di lavorare come babysitter per la famiglia Skinner. I genitori, Bryony e Nick, sono qualcosa come due geni della finanza e delle pubbliche relazioni, stramiliardari. Jack, il figlio maggiore, è anche lui una specie di genio negli studi, solitario e sarcastico. Izzie, la figlia adolescente, al limite dell'anoressia e dei problemi di relazione. Infine, i due gemelli Hector e Alfie, gemelli talmente uniti da apparire strani. Personaggi forse più interessanti, i genitori di Bryony, Foy e Tita. Lui, un arzillo vecchietto che ama essere al centro dell'attenzione e raccontare storie più o meno inventate sul proprio passato. Lei, una specie di Donna Marella Agnelli, elegante e riservata, ma decisa e di ferro.
Oltre ai personaggi, direi che non c'è proprio nient'altro di interessante da dire. La trama l'ho trovata scialba, il racconto lento. Un libro di 468 pagine che poteva benissimo essere tagliato e compresso in metà spazio.

 This book left me a bit speechless. To be honest, I imagined something more. The Italian title, instead, has nothing to do with it. You can't understand who is this "bad girl" and this "right man", just because the only two right men in the book are both under the age of 10. Apart the lady of the house, more than bad she is determined, I can't see bad girls. And the main character is definitely not bad, Ali. Student of English literature, to pay her university rates she accepts a job as babysitter for family Skinner. The parents, Byrony and Nick, are something like two billionare financial and public relations genius. Jack, the oldest son, is some kind of genius too, solitary and sarcastic. Izzie, the teenage daughter, close to anorexia. Then, the twins Hector and Alfie, so united to look freak. Maybe more interesting, Byrony parents, Foy and Tita. He, a sprightly old man that loves being the centre of attention and telling stories about his past. She, a sort of Marella Agnelli, elegant and posh, but determined and with an iron will.
Beyond the characters, there isn't much more interesting to tell. The plot is dull, the story slow. A book of 468 wasted pages.

Per chi, come me, ha letto tutti i romanzi di Jane Austen, questo libriccino... diciamo che mi ha lasciata un po' così.
La penna della Austen si nota, ovviamente. Il "gossip", i complotti matrimoniali, le relazioni tra famiglie, la necessità di far sposare le giovani ragazze, tutto è familiare. Persino la frase "preferisco guadagnarmi il pane, che sposare Sir James", detta dalla giovane Frederica, fa molto Austen.
Eppure, non so, questo romanzetto epistolare mi lascia come insoddisfatta. Sarà che è un'opera giovanile, quindi non ha ancora la piena maturità, il pieno fiorire delle doti dell'autrice. Ma sembra, giustamente per un'opera giovanile, come un esercizio di stile prima del grande salto.
Eppure, la protagonista, pur calcolatrice e egoista, non scatena certo quella simpatia che altre eroine austeniane come Emma fanno. E' antipatica, totalmente egoista e non si ravvede nemmeno alla fine. Il finale sembra una ripicca dell'autrice che fa sposare questa donna, intelligente ma completamente presa da se stessa e insensibile, con l'uomo che meno brilla nel romanzo.
Un libro comunque da leggere, come da leggere obbligatoriamente sono tutti i libri di questa straordinaria scrittrice.

 I've read every Jane Austen's novel, but this little book... well, let me a bit gobsmacked.
You can see Miss Austen's pen, of course. Gossip, wedding plots, relationships between families, the need for the young ladies to get married, everything you know. Even the sentence "I prefer earning my daily bread, than marry Sir James", said by the young Frederica, is so Austen.
But, I don't know, this epistolary let me so dissatisfied. Maybe because is a early work, without her full maturity. But it looks like exercising her style before taking the next big step.
The main character, calculating and selfish, doesn't endear like other Miss Austen's characters (like Emma) do. She is unpleasant, selfish and doesn't look ever reformed. The end is like a spite to this intelligent but insensitive woman, get married with the most boring man in the novel.
A book to read, as to read are every book of this great writer.
(PS: If you want to know my favourite Austen's book, it is "Pride and Predjudice" and, then, "Emma"!)

Post che scrissi in terra d'Albione. Mi sarebbe piaciuto portare con me tutti i libri ancora in sospeso ma sono rimasti nella mia stanzetta in Italia aspettando il mio ritorno. Che dire? Certo, che pure io che scelgo un romanzo del più francese degli scrittori per iniziare il mio viaggio in Inghilterra... gente furba!
Comunque...questo libro non si può che amare. E' bellissimo. Lo spunto della storia è dato da un'asta, dove colui che dovrebbe essere lo stesso autore compra il libro di una mantenuta appena deceduta. Il libro reca una misteriosa dedica... ed ecco che compare colui che quel libro regalò e quella dedica scrisse. Armand racconta così la sua storia allo scrittore, e la sua storia d'amore con Madame Gautier è il libro che ho tenuto in mano. Margherita è diversa e insieme uguale alle altre mantenute... è capace di grandi sentimenti, di slanci di amore senza secondi fini, ma insieme sa che la sua vita e i suoi piaceri hanno un prezzo e sa che uomini come Armand tutto questo non possono sopportarlo.
La storia è struggente, romantica, appassionata. Armand farebbe di tutto per questa donna che gli ha rubato il cuore e l'anima, per lei rinuncia a passare l'estate con gli amatissimi padre e sorella, per lei si dà al gioco per pagare le sue spese, per lei fa tutto. Margherita ama sinceramente Armand, forse per la prima volta nella sua vita c'è qualcuno che ama senza volere niente in cambio, anzi, solamente dandogli tutta se stessa. Ma solo per il suo bene e per quello della sorella lo abbandona, gli fa credere di non amarlo più come prima e di essere apprezzare la sua vita e la ricchezza più di lui. Ma...l'amore trionfa? In questo caso, la morte.
Bellissimo. Leggetelo, anche se non siete in aereo per cambiare vita. Se siete in carrozza, può andare.

 This was a post written by England. I would like to bring every book with me but they stayed here, in Italy, in my bedroom, waiting for me. What can I say? Well, I chose a novel of the most French writer to start my trip in England... clever people!
Anyway... You can't love this book. It's beautiful. The starting point is given by an auction, where the first person narrator buys a diary belonged to a just dead kept woman. In the first page is written a mysterious dedication... and there you are, the man who donated that book and wrote that dedication. Armand tells his story to the writer, and his lovestory with Madame Gautier is the book. Marguerite is different and alike too the other women... she has strong feelings, love without ulterior motives, but still knows that her life and her pleasures cost and she knows that men like Armand can't stand it. The novel is moving, romantic, passionate. Armand would do everything for the woman that stole his heart and mind, for her quit spending the summer with his beloved father and sister, for her he gambles, for her he does everything. Marguerite sincerely loves Armand, maybe for the first time in her life there is someone who loves without nothing in return, just putting herself all into him. But she leaves him just for his and his sister advantage, she let him thinking that she doesn't love him anymore and that she appreciates her life and her opulence more than him. But... does love triumph? In this case, death.
Beautiful. Read it, even though you are not in a airplane. If you are in a coach, it's better.

Dopo aver letto i racconti del terrore di Edgar Allan Poe, non potevo esimermi dalla lettura dei racconti di Lovecraft. In questo libriccino é presente, oltre al racconto "La casa stregata" che dà il nome al libro, anche "L'orrore a Red Hook".
Devo dire che, per quanto sia sicuramente un libro del terrore in tutti i suoi effetti, continuo a ritenere migliore il maestro Poe piuttosto che l'allievo Lovecraft. I racconti sono sicuramente avvincenti e inquietanti, ma sono troppo caricati per essere davvero paurosi. Mi spiego meglio. Ovviamente t temi trattati sono tali da incutere timore ma il fatto di essere troppo esagerati, le precise descrizioni di tutto quello che succede, il ricorso a un mondo ultraterreno, fa sì che il libro faccia paura ma non terrorizzi. Poe, invece, in questo era maestro in quanto le sue vicende sono raccontate prendendo come spunto immagini quotidiane, apparentemente innocue, che vengono circondate di mistero. Poe non mi ha fatto dormire per un'intera notte, guardandomi attorno nella mia familiare camera da letto, difficile che Lovecraft abbia lo stesso effetto su di me.

 I red the "Tales of Terror" by Edgar Allan Poe, I couldn't free myself by reading the Tales by Lovecraft. In this little book you can find, in addition to the tale "The Shunned House", "The Horror at Red Hook" too.
I have to say that, in the matter of it is a terror tale for all purpose, I keep prefering the Master Poe than his pupil Lovecraft. The tales are for sure engaging and disquieting, but maybe there is too much to be really scary. I explain my thought better. Of course, the themes frighten but they are overdone, the accurate description of what happen, the recourse to otherwordly, the book scares but don't horrify. Poe, instead, was a master because the happening is told taking as starting point the daily routine, apparently harmless, but surrounded of mistery. Poe didn't let me sleepfor an entire night, looking around in my well-known bedroom... difficult that Lovecraft had the same effect on me.

Ma il lavoro del poliziotto è fatto anche di casi imprevisti e puntuale arriva la telefonata del suo capo. Andare a parlare con una specie di guru spirituale sul maltrattamento di cani. L'investigatore pensa di metterci giusto qualche ora, caso di routine, niente di troppo importante. Ma se poi si aggiungono due omicidi con la stessa dinamica, il caso si complica. E le ferie si allontanano sempre di più...
Un romanzo giallo breve interessante e che si fa leggere. Una volta che inizi vuoi sapere a tutti i costi chi è Rasoio. Devo dire che un'idea su chi ci fosse dietro me l'ero già fatta molte pagine prima del finale... sarò io che ho un intuito da poliziotta o, dopo aver letto tanti libri gialli, ho capito subito come smascherare l'assassino? Libro carino, da leggere sotto l'ombrellone, è piccolo e costa poco.

I have to say that I made my idea a lot of pages before the end... is it me that I have the perfect intuition or, after so much detective novels, I understood how to unmask the murderer? Nice book, to read under the beach umbrella, it's little and costs little.

Un altro libriccino edito dalla Newton Compton nella collana 0,99cent, un altro libro nella lista dei libri che mi piacciono. Stavolta ci troviamo nell'antica Roma. Sono tempi di lotte e battaglie, di sangue e schiavi. Mario, il grande conquistatore sei volte console, è tornato e vuole il settimo consolato. Lo schiavo Crisso diventa la sua guardia del corpo portafortuna, lo spinge in battaglia, gli affida assassinii di coloro che gli erano nemici. Ma Crisso non è un sanguinario e l'incontro con la schiava Giunilla lo aiuterà a non farsi prendere dalla smania del potere e della guerra. Ma...
Un libro molto interessante, uno spaccato di quella che era la vita a Roma di chi gravitava intorno all'esercito e alle lotte di potere.
Un bel romanzo storico, una somma piccola per un libro che consiglio vivamente.

La storia del mio incontro con questo libro è ciò che c'é di più casuale al mondo. Ero in biblioteca, andata a cercare i libri di cui avevo la lista in mano. Vicino allo scaffale delle novità incrocio questo libro a terra, immagino caduto dallo scaffale. Lo raccolgo per metterlo a posto e do uno sguardo alla copertina. "L'impossibile arte di essere donne" mi ha conquistata e già a metà del libro ero innamorata!!
Credo che sia uno dei libri più interessanti che abbia letto, un saggio sulla condizione delle donne scritto non nella solita maniera barbosa ma in modo fresco, interessante, con piccoli aneddoti, uno sguardo pratico nel mondo attuale, lo sguardo che ogni donna normale con una vita normale ha e capisce. Niente teorizzazioni astruse perché si sa che la risposta più semplice é anche quella giusta.
Le autrici spaziano da un argomento all'altro, dal lavoro al cibo, dallo shopping al sesso. Per ogni capitolo, tanti consigli, perle di saggezza, piccoli racconti di vita vissuta.
Sinceramente, ho adorato questo libro. Lo amo. É interessante, sveglio, divertente, pratico. Proprio come le donne.

 The story of my meeting with this book is the most fortuitous in the world. I was in the library, looking for some specific books in my list. Near the news shelf I come across this book on the floor, I presume fallen from the shelf. I pick it up to set it right and I get a glimpse of the cover. "The impossible art of being female" wins over me and by the midpoint I was in love!
In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting book I've ever read, an essay about female life written not in the usual boring way but with a fresh style, interesting, with little stories, a pragmatic look to the world, the look that every real woman with a normal life has and understands. No obscure theory because ew already know that the easiest answer is the right one.
The writers range from several subjects, from work to food, from shopping to sex. For every chapter, many advices, pearls of wisdom, short tales of lived life.
Honestly, I loved this book. I love it. It's interesting, smart, funny, pragmatic. As the women are.

Ho letto il primo libro del signor Barreau e mi aveva letteralmente conquistato. Gli ingredienti segreti dell'amore era una storia d'amore così delicata, gentile, con quel tocco di francese che rende tutto più charmant, che l'ho adorato dalla prima lettura.
Questo secondo libro non fa eccezione. La storia é talmente bella ed elegante e misteriosa che ne vieni colpita subito. Pagina dopo pagina sei conquistata dall'eleganza e dalla bellezza della scrittura che, se da una parte sei curiosa di sapere chi sia la donna misteriosa, dall'altra vorresti avere più pagine, vorresti che il libro non finisse mai. É un insieme perfetto di una bella storia e di un modo di scrivere incantevole. Ecco, incantevole. É l'aggettivo giusto per definire questo romanzo. Il secondo romanzo di Monsieur Barreau é un piccolo gioiello incantevole e, dopo averlo letto, non si può fare a meno di desiderare intensamente un'altra volta di rivivere quelle pagine e quello charme.

 The first book written by Monsieur Barreau seduced me, literaly. The secret ingredients of love was a lovestory so delicate, gentle, with that French touch that makes everything more charmant. I loved the book at the first reading.
This second book the same, without exception. The plot is so beautiful and fascinating that you're immediately struck down. Page by page, you're so seduced by the elegance and beauty of the writing that, on one side you're curious about the identity of the woman, from the other side you don't want the book's end. It's a perfect mix of a beautiful story and an enchanting writing. There it is, enchanting. It's the right adjective for this novel. The second novel of Monsieur Barreau is a little enchanting jewel and you intensely desire to live again these pages and that charme.

Glenn O'Brien è cool, figo e tutti i modi in cui volete esprimere lo stesso concetto. Faceva parte della Factory di Andy Warhol, scrive per Vanity Fair, bon-vivant, esperto di stile. Non vi basta solo questa frase? Dio, quanto pretendete...
Ok, se siete donne sono sicura che già lo conosciate ma in caso non le soluzioni sono due: andate a farvi vedere da uno bravo o cercatevi tutte le vecchie edizioni di Vanity Fair dove c'è la sua rubrica.
Se siete uomini, dovete leggere questo libro. Fatelo per voi stessi e soprattutto per il voi futuro. Questo libro è la Bibbia dello stile per l'uomo, qui è nascosta tutta la conoscenza che fino ad ora vi era nascosta e inaccessibile. Saprete come parlare, dove andare, cosa comprare, come vestirvi, mangiare, vivere. E sarete un uomo di stile.
E molto probabilmente imparerete anche un po' di quella ironia così british che contraddistingue il grande Glenn. Consigliatissimo!! (l'avevate già capito, no?)

If you're men, you have to read this book. Do for yourself and for your future. This book is the Style's Bible for men, in here you can find the knowledge that was hidden until now. You'll discover how to speak, where to go, what to buy, what to wear, eat, live. And you'll a stylish man. And, probably, you'll learn a bit of that british irony that is Glenn's trademark. Advised!

Jenny, Maggie ed Alison hanno tutte messo gli occhi sullo stesso servizio e per tutte e tre è molto importante: Jenny si deve sposare e ha incentrato tutto il ricevimento sul tema degli antichi servizi; Maggie deve organizzare il matrimonio di una ricca cliente e le servono quelle tazze per l'allestimento; Allison ne ha bisogno per realizzare delle candele molto particolari.
Invece di litigare, le tre donne, senza saperlo, mettono la base della loro futura amicizia: tenere il servizio una volta a testa. E dagli incontri, dai tè con i pasticcini che nasce un'amicizia e un sodalizio tutto al femminile, un vero e proprio "Club delle Tazze d'Epoca".
Ormai, come tutti quei romanzi che riguardano amicizia al femminile e cibo, è diventata una mia abitudine. Già dalla copertina mi attraggono e beh, questa copertina mi ha fatto innamorare al primo sguardo. Come non avrebbe potuto? Insomma, anche questo libro lo annovero tra quei libri deliziosi e adorabili che già ho letto e inserito in questo blog. E ve lo consiglio caldamente... caldo come una tazza di tè!

Iona e Sally sono due donne diversissime. Iona è giovane, frizzante, una donna in carriera che ama il suo lavoro. E' innamoratissima dell'uomo che ha sposato da appena due anni e con lui vorrebbe tanto avere la gioia di un bambino. Sally invece è ormai una donna matura, con un lavoro come vicepreside in una scuola femminile, un lungo matrimonio e una figlia adolescente che la sta facendo diventare matta. Ma come si dice gli opposti si attraggono e in questo caso a metterci lo zampino è una frana che si abbatte su un pub in mezzo all'autostrada...
Immagino che questo motivo dell'amicizia tra donne sia ormai diventato un classico, considerato che in pochi giorni ho avuto a che fare con due libri che trattano di questo tema. Sempre tre donne, sempre un evento scatenante che porta a un totale scombussolamento nella loro vita. Non mi dispiace, soprattutto in questo libro la trama è alquanto originale e spesso e volentieri sprazzi di ironia costellano i discorsi tra le tre.
Una lettura consigliata, scritto bene.

I think that the theme of women friendship is already a classic, because in two days I had in my hands two books about this. Three women, a provoking event that literally bring a complete shock in their life. I don't dislike, most of all in this book the plot is very original and a lot of irony sprinkles their conversations.
I suggest this book, it's written very well.

Questo libro lo consiglierei, anzi, lo renderei lettura obbligata per tutti almeno una volta all'anno. Perchè in un mondo come quello di oggi, dove ognuno pensa solo ai fatti suoi e di essere gentili ormai non importa più niente a nessuno, un po' di cortesia in più sarebbe indispensabile per vivere meglio.
Non si parla certo di prostarsi di fronte a ognuno in un eccesso di servilismo, ma essere capaci di un rapporto umano e civile con le persone che ci circondano.
Il libro è uno studio della cortesia e del modo in cui si sviluppa nell'essere umano a partire dall'infanzia. Scopro così che molte persone che conosco, per quanto riguarda il fattore cortesia, sono ferme a 5 anni di età, non essendosi ancora resi conto dell'importanza di stare bene anche le persone intorno a loro. Perchè, come dice il libro: "Le persone sono scortesi non tanto perchè non sanno parlare bene, quanto piuttosto piuttosto perchè non si interessano dei sentimenti altrui o non si sforzano di capirli. Si potrebbe sostenere che, nelle persone normali, la maleducazione ha più a che fare con la freddezza o con la vera e propria cattiveria che con l'ignoranza delle parole giuste o delle azioni più appropriate." Se una persona è scortese e antipatica, non è che non sa come si fa, è che è proprio cattiva e indifferente di suo. Avessi avuto questo concetto chiaro in testa molto tempo...
In quanto... "La cortesia è un fenomeno universale e alla portata di tutti, una volta trascorsa l'infanzia. E' una capacità umana complessa e sofisticata, ma strordinariamente felice, una volta che si decida di usarla. Per gli esseri umani, la cortesia e la gentilezza sono facili, facili come sorridere."
Non è poi così difficile, no?

 I suggest this book... no, more, I would like to make it obligated reading for everybody at least once a year. In the world of today, where everybody thinks just for itself and nobody cares about being kind, a bit more of kindness would be useful to live better.
I don't telling about being slave of everyone, ma being able to a sympathetic and civil relationship with people around us.
The book is a study about kindness and the way it grows in humans from the birth. I discover that a lot of people I know, what concern the kindness-factor, are stuck at 5 years old, not being able to understand the importance of being nice with other people. Because, as the book says: "People is unkind not just because they can't talk well, but because they don't care about other people feelings. In "normal" people, the rudeness handles more with detachment or the real wickedness than the ignorance of right words or appropriate activities." If a person is unkind and rude, it's not that it doesn't know how to do, it's just that it's wicked and emotionless. I would like to have this concept bright in my head in the past...
As to... "The courtesy is a universal phenomenon and suitable for all, once past the childhood. It's a elaborate and refined human ability, but extraordinarily satisfyng, when you decide to use it. For human beings, courtesy and kindness are easy, easy as smiling."
Not so difficult, isn't it?

Una storia di donne accomunate dalle relazioni con un uomo: Bill Cosey. Heed, Christine, May, L, Junior, tutte loro unite lui, del quale si dipinge un quadro completo come il libro va avanti: nonno, suocero, marito, amante, fantasma. Heed e Christine sono amiche di infanzia, un'amicizia spezzata quando il nonno della seconda, Bill, decide di prendere in moglie la undicenne Heed. Da un lato lei, la moglie bambina sculacciata a tavola per un'intemperanza, dall'altra parte May e Christine che si ritengono le legittime eredi dell'albergo e delle fortune di Bill. Un testamento scovato tra i menù della cucina dovrebbe fare chiarezza, e invece porta con sè solo altri dubbi e bugie. E a mettere scompiglio in una casa in cui la freddezza è più forte delle mura, arriva Junior, ragazza con alle spalle tanti segreti. E sarà lei la causa della tragedia finale e di una stessa conclusione che, forse, conclusione non è.
Un romanzo costruito su ricordi e flashkack, dove le caratterizzazioni iniziali vengono approfondite e ribaltate, dove i desideri di un uomo decidono della vita di cinque donne.
Un libro non facile, da leggere con attenzione e con un occhio alle pagine precedenti. Un libro che probabilmente alla prima lettura non viene capito a fondo, dove particolari celano e svelano insieme la vicenda.
L'autrice vinse il Premio Nobel nel 1993 per "la sua capacità di dare vita ad un aspetto essenziale della realtà americana in racconti caratterizzati da forza visionaria e rilevanza poetica".

The writer won the Nobel Prize in 1993 for "who in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality".

Devo decisamente smetterla di leggere testi di critica letteraria. Finisce sempre che mi faccio liste di tutti i libri citati che voglio leggere e le mie liste totali inizieranno a essere vendute in edizioni da 20 volumi. Già a metà, la frase che dà il titolo al blog si fa sempre più vera.
Grazie a questo libro, infatti, tra il mio cellulare e il mio pc hanno fatto la loro comparsa dei promemoria per ricordarmi tutti i titoli che voglio leggere.
Ho letto pezzi sulla mia scrittrice preferita (Doris Lessing), su scrittori che amo molto (Philip Roth), su scrittori che conosco poco e che meglio vorrei apprezzare ( Salman Rushdie e Don DeLillo) e autori che non conoscevo ma che ora non vedo l'ora di leggere (Dave Eggers, A.S.Byatt, Frank McCourt).
Insomma, questo libro é un po' un libro che amerei scrivere io stessa. Cosa c'é di più bello, per chi ama leggere, che poter incontrare così tanti scrittori che hanno scritto libri fondamentali per la storia della letteratura? Una vita interessante oltre ogni limite!
Possiamo ritrovare autori di varie parti del mondo, statunitensi, inglesi, irlandesi, nigeriani, indiani, tedeschi, cinesi, giapponesi... Come fai a resistere alla tentazione di leggere di tutti loro? Tanti modi di vivere di vedere la vita che si incrociano, tanti occhi aperti verso altrettanti spicchi di mondo e tu che li vivi attraverso i loro occhi.
Il signor Freeman é davvero un privilegiato!

 I have to stop reading books of literary criticism. I do lists of books that I want to read and my general lists will be sell in 20 volumes editions.
Thanks to this book, in effect, in my mobile phone and in my pc appeared notes to remember all the titles that I want to read.
I have read pieces on my favourite writer (Doris Lessing), on writers that I really love (Philip Roth), on writers that I barely know and that I'd like to know more (Salman Rushdie and Don DeLillo) and writers that I know and now I'm looking forward to reading their books (Dave Eggers, A.S.Byatt, Frank McCourt).
In other words, this is a book that I would like to write too. What's better, for who loves reading, than being able to meet so many writers that wrote masterpieces for the history of literature? The most interesting life!
We can find writers from all over the world, from USA, England, Ireland, Nigeria, India, Germany, China, Japan... How can you help being tempted to read them? A lot of different ways to watch life, a lot of open eyes on as many world's wedges and you can live these through their eyes.
Mr Freeman is such a privileged!

Seguendo la sua passione per la fotografia e per la regia, Kris decide di raccontare la sua malattia in un documentario e nel libro da cui è tratto. Nel libro c'è la sua vita da "sopravvissuta", come ama definirsi. Ci sono le sue amiche, anche loro "sopravvissute" con cui condividere i propri pensieri, ci sono i suggerimenti su come mangiare in modo più sano e le sue ricette, ma ci sono anche momenti più leggeri,come il capitolo dedicato ai modi migliori in cui spendere il credito della propria Cancro-Card e il capitolo dedicato al sesso e all'amore durante la malattia.

Non avendo mai provato in prima persona quello di cui Kris racconta nel suo libro è probabile che abbia capito forse la metà di quello che è il messaggio del libro.Ma ho capito che Kris Carr è una persona che rende il mondo migliore, una di quelle che ti portano a sorridere, a voler essere come lei, a voler vivere la propria vita pienamente. Leggere questo libro vi farà sorridere, vi farà pensare, vi farà riflettere su voi stessi... ma soprattutto vi farà venire voglia di avere lo stesso atteggiamento mentale di Kris e il suo bellissimo sorriso!

I never tried on my skin what Kris tells in her book, and so probably I can't understand her complete message. But I understand that Kris is a person that makes world a better place, a person that bring you to smile, to want be like her, to live your own life completely. reading this book will make you smile, think about yourselves... but most of all, will make you want to have Kris's approach and her beautiful smile!

Dopo P.S.I love You, Cecelia Ahern ci dà ulteriore dimostrazione della sua bravura nel raccontare storie "fantastiche". Lucy Silchester è una ragazza di quasi trent'anni la cui vita all'esterno appare magnifica. Peccato che questa sia la versione che lei ha raccontato ad amici e parenti. Le sue bugie si sono sommate fino a creare intorno a lei un'enorme gabbia. Ma ora è arrivato il momento di incontrare colui a cui non potrà mentire....la sua vita!Non l'avrebbe mai immaginato ma la sua vita ha l'aspetto di un signore sciatto e bruttarello, ed è tutta colpa sua!Ma le sorprese non finiscono certo qui...
Cecelia Ahern è davvero brava nel presentare una storia così particolare da farla sembrare quasi reale, quasi ordinaria. Sembra quasi alla portata di tutte noi fare due chiacchiere con la propria vita, dividere l'appartamento....fosse davvero così facile!!

Questo libro è nella mia classifica dei preferiti da sempre. Sarà che il connubio amore/dolore/paesaggi idilliaci su di me ha sempre un certo effetto (non per altro, il romanticismo inglese per me è casa), ma al Werther non so resistere. Sarà stata la stessa cosa che hanno pensato i giovani contemporanei, perchè proprio questo libro creo una moda, sia stilistica con i ragazzi che si vestivano come Werther, sia più tragica, con un incremento dei giovani che si suicidavano per amore. Essendo forse la terza o la quarta volta che lo leggo, capirete che almeno per quello credo di essere salva, ma ancora il libro ha su di me un enorme effetto.
Il romanzo epistolare è formato dalle lettere che Werther scrive all'amico Guglielmo. Werther racconta del suo viaggio nella cittadina fittizia di Wahlheim, dove fa la conoscenza della bella figlia del capomastro, Carlotta. I due giovani si trovano subito in sintonia, condividono sentimenti e passioni comuni. Peccato che Carlotta sia già promessa in sposa ad Alberto, un bravo ragazzo su cui lo stesso Werther non potrebbe dire niente di disonorevole. Per cercare di dimenticare il suo infelice amore, Werther viene assunto alle dipendenze di un aristocratico. I rapporti con il suo capo però sono pesanti e non riesce a inserirsi in quell'ambiente snob. Stanco di tutto, torna al paesino, dove però tutto è cambiato. L'idilliaco paesino non è più quello da cui è partito, le persone sono cambiate e Carlotta e Alberto sono convolati a nozze.
Un'intensa depressione assale Werther, che prende la decisione definitiva...
Bellissimo, un capolavoro, non potrei aggiungere altro a quello che è il Werther. Da leggere.

 This book is in my Favourite List all along. I can't handle the emotional effect of the love/pain/idyllic landscape's union (for no other reason than English Romanticism for me is home), but I love the Werther. I think that his young contemporaries felt the same, because this book created a trend, both stylistic with young gentlemen dressing like Werther, and more fatal, with an increase of suicides for love. It is the third or fourth time I read it, at least for that I consider myself safe, but still the book as a huge impact on me.
The epistolary novel is done by the letters that Werther writes to his friend Wilhelm. Werther tells about the trip in a fictitious little town called Wahleim, where he meets the beautiful daughter of the master mason, Lotte. The two youths are in tune with each other, they share feeling and passions. Unfortunately Lotte is engaged with Albert, a good man that earns the respect of Werther himself.Trying to forget his troubled love, Werther is employed by an aristocrat. But the business relationships with his boss are hard and he can't integrate himself in that snobby environment. Tired of everything, he goes back to the little town, where everything is changed. The idyllic little town is no more the one that he knows, people changed and Lotte and Albert are now husband and wife.
Werther is in a deep depression and he takes the finale decision...
Beautiful, a masterpiece, I can't add more. To read.
