Per quanto mi riguarda, questo é il primo libro che leggo di DeLillo. E quindi, partirò da lì.
La storia si apre con Keith, impiegato alle Torri Gemelle, appena scampato alla distruzione. Il romanzo parla di lui, di Lianne, sua moglie, di Justin, suo figlio. Di come tre persone reagiscono a una delle più grandi tragedie della storia americana. Domina su tutto l'insicurezza, la paura, il nichilismo. Keith diventa ossessionato dal poker, gira per il paese per tornei, in una caduta verso il nulla. Lianne tiene corsi a malati di Alzeheimer, cosciente che, per tara genetica, quello é un probabile futuro che la aspetta.
L'uomo che cade, non solo l'uomo immortalato in una famosissima foto, ma anche l'artista che si esibisce nelle strade di New York, protagonista muto.
Opposta e speculare, la sicurezza e l'organizzazione dei terroristi pronti a imbarcarsi in una missione suicida.
É un libro inquietante, pesante, vero. L'America all'indomani dell'11 Settembre é un paese che ha paura, che vuole rialzarsi ma é troppo scosso. Un paese che cade. Ma come sappiamo, ce l'ha fatta. Su Ground Zero si erge una torre, ancora più alta delle precedenti, a sfidare la paura. Non si dimentica. Ma la vita é più forte della paura.
Non ho letto gli altri libri di DeLillo. Ma secondo me, questo é il libro adatto.

Reading some reviews, after I finished my own reading, I discover a cmomon trait. Who has already read Underworld, by Don DeLillo too, agree in writing that this one falls short. This one isn't his best book. Even if they agree Don DeLillo is the most suitable author to write about 9/11.
As for me, this is the first book I read by him. So, I'll start from here.
The story begins with Keith, one of the many working in the Twin Towers, just escaped by the distruction. The novel tells about him, Lianne, his wife, and Justin, his son. How three people react to one of the greatest tragedy in American history. Over all, the insecurity dominates, fear, nihilism. Keith becomes obsessed by poker, he travels through the country for tournaments, in a falling towards nothing. Lianne leads lessons to Alzeheimer patients, aware that, because a genetic defect, that's her probable future.
The Falling Man, not just the man pictured in a super famous photo, but also the artist appearing in the streets of New York, silent character.
Opposite and symmetrical, the confidence and organization of the terrorists, ready to embarking for a suicidal mission.
It's a disturbing book, heavy, true. America after 9/11 is a scared country, wanting to picking itself up again, but it's too upset. A falling country.
But as we know, America did it. In Ground Zero there is an higher tower, to defy the fear. They don't forget. But life is stronger than fear.
I didn't read the other book written by DeLillo. But in my opinion, this is the right book.
