Una storia originale, che mette insieme razionalità e fede. Una protagonista bellissima. Un'introspezione psicologica mai calcata ma sempre precisa. Una sapiente scelta di parole e di linguaggio, che rende la sua prosa preziosa e piacevole da leggere. Un'intelligenza raffinata nei rimandi musicali e in quelli più tecnici della giurisprudenza.
Insomma, un libro che non potrei non consigliare.
Ma oltre a questo, c'è di più.
Lo ammetto, sto scrivendo questa recensione senza essere obiettiva. Infatti, un paio di settimane fa, Ian McEwan era a un paio di metri da me. Ho potuto vederlo dal vivo, in carne e ossa. Respirare la stessa aria. E devo dirvelo. A pelle, mi ha fatto un'impressione bellissima. Un uomo intelligente ed ironico, un uomo a suo agio con se stesso. Che ama quello che fa e che si diverte, un uomo con cui adorerei andare a cena insieme.
E non soltanto per annoiarlo con quanto adori i suoi libri e quanto sia egli un genio.

I think I've said like a million times that, for me, Ian McEwan is the best writer in the world right now. Nobody else can write like him. His novels strike my heart and my brain every single time.
An original story, mixing together rationality and faith. A beautiful main character. A psychological introspection never overdone but always precise. A wise choice of words and language, that makes his writing precious and pleasant to read. A refined taste in musical references and in those more technical about jurisprudence.
So, it's a book I strongly suggest.
But, there is more.
I must admit, I am writing this review without being impartial. In fact, few weeks ago, Ian McEwan was in front of me. I had the great opportunity to see him, in the flesh. To breath the same air. And I must say it. By instinct, he gave me a beautiful first impression. An ironic and intelligent man, a man comfortable in his own skin. Who loves what he does and has fun doing it, a man with who I would love have a dinner together.
And not to bore him telling how much I love his novels and I think he is a genius.
