Fin da allora, mi è rimasta così la curiosità di conoscere meglio questo autore, ma non avevo mai davvero iniziato. Ho comprato due suoi libri e quello era stato il mio "contributo alla causa", fino all'inizio di Novembre.
Ho iniziato questo libro e poi l'ho accantonato, Jerry e Sally in aeroporto non mi avevano convinto così tanto. Poi l'ho ripreso e la storia finalmente mi ha catturata.
Due coppie alle prese con una relazione adulterina, e con le reazioni dei due coniugi traditi. Updike entra nelle loro teste e nelle loro vite e ci riporta ogni dettaglio del loro pensiero. Jerry e Sally, innamorati di loro stessi e dell'idea di esserlo l'una con l'altro, Richard e Ruth, la ragione. E per quanto ognuno di questi personaggi abbia delle sgradevolezze, pure sono incredibilmente reali.
Le schermaglie tra loro quattro, le indecisioni, gli insulti mascherati in un palcoscenico di perbenista provincia americana.
La scrittura è intrigante, nel mio secondo tentativo mi ha catturata e non mi ha lasciata fino alla fine.
Come prima prova, è stata superata.

Many years ago, I remember reading an essay by a literary critic who I prayed, about how to read Updike was essential to his life.
Since then, I have been so curious to know this author better, but I never really started. I bought two of his books and that was my "contribution to the cause" until the beginning of November.
I started this book and then I set it aside, Jerry and Sally at the airport did not convince me so much. Then I picked it up again and the story finally caught me.
Two couples getting to grips with an adulterous relationship, and with the reactions of the two betrayed spouses. Updike enters in their heads and lives and brings us every detail of their thinking. Jerry and Sally, in love with themselves and the idea of ??being in love one with each other, and Richard and Ruth, the rationality. And as far as each of these characters can be unpleasant, they are incredibly real.
Skirmishes between them four, indecisions, masquerading insults on the stage of an American perbenist small town.
Writing is intriguing, in my second attempt he captured me and he did not leave me until the end.
