Questo libro di Ariès è una collezione di una serie di saggi sull'argomento dal punto di vista dello storico. Come è cambiato il modo di vedere e di approcciarsi a essa, dal Medioevo ai giorni nostri? Tantissimo, in ognuno degli aspetti. Dagli ultimi momenti di vita di chi sta per morire, al ruolo della famiglia e della Chiesa, al nostro rapporto con i cimiteri, sia personale sia a più alto grado, il loro ruolo all'interno della città e come i cittadini vi si rapportano. Tutto molto interessante.
L'unico motivo per cui ho dato 3 stelle è che, essendo un insieme di una parte generale e poi una raccolta di saggi scritti e pubblicati tra il 1966 e il 1975, succede che molto spesso si ripetano concetti e la cosa risulti ridondante.
In ogni caso, per coloro a cui interessa il tema, sicuramente una lettura ricca di informazioni e di sguardi sulla storia della morte come viene vissuta da noi occidentali.

I admit that it's probably not the happiest topic to deal with, but it's still an important part of our existence, and nobody escapes from it. Obviously, but I don't think it is necessary to say it, I don't like it when it happens to someone I love or who I only know, but the subject of death interests me very much, especially from an historical and anthropological point of view.
This book of Ariès is a collection of a series of essays on the subject from the point of view of the historian. How has the way of seeing and approaching it changed from the Middle Ages to the present day? Very much, in each of the aspects. From the last moments of life of those who are about to die, to the role of the family and of the Church, to their relationship with cemeteries, both personal and to a higher degree, their role in the city and how the citizens relate to it. All very interesting.
The only reason I gave 3 stars is that, being a set of a general part and then a collection of essays written and published between 1966 and 1975, it often happens that concepts are repeated and it finishes to be redundant.
In any case, for those interested in the subject, certainly a rich reading in informations and looks about the history of death as it is experienced by us Westerners.
