Non ricordo esattamente il periodo ma sicuramente prima del Coronavirus, andai alla presentazione di un libro di Chiara Valerio, presente l'autrice. Per circa un'ora o quale è stata la durata della serata, ho ascoltato l'autrice parlare e mi sono meravigliosamente stupita della sua abilità di passare da un riferimento all'altro, all'interno di un discorso assolutamente lineare, senza perdere mai il filo, senza mai impappinarsi. Avrei voluto prendere nota di tutti i riferimenti a libri interessanti da leggere ma neanche il tempo di prendere il cellulare per segnarmelo, erano già passati altri tre riferimenti che avrei voluto segnarmi.
Questo libro, soprattutto il primo saggio, mi ha ricordato moltissimo quella serata... a parte il fatto che qui è tutto scritto e quindi no problem per segnarmi qualcosa. Un paio di volte mi sono soffermata a pensare "rallenta!", praticamente tutto il libro l'ho letto lentissimamente perché altrimenti non ci avrei capito una cippa. Di tutte le cose interessanti che dice, ho bisogno di andare parola per parola per capire il concetto altrimenti mi perdo. E considerato che io non ho mai studiato matematica a livelli universitari, avendo fatto Lettere, in molte cose mi sono persa molto facilmente. Ed è questo il motivo per cui ho dato tre stelle, sicuramente non per un difetto dell'autrice ma per un limite mio: semplicemente alcune cose non le ho capite perché per me molti concetti suonavano lontani.
Forse avesse avuto più tempo e più pagine in modo da spiegare meglio tutto, l'avrei capito meglio.
Fortunatamente la seguo ormai da tempo quindi una infarinatura del suo pensiero già l'avevo e ho potuto godere lo stesso di questo libriccino (nemmeno mille pagine) in cui esprime il suo pensiero sulla democrazia e la politica italiana in tempi di Coronavirus.
Consigliato a chi si prende tutto il tempo per leggere, quindi niente appassionati di lettura veloce che non capireste una cippa. Alla prossima presentazione, spero presto.

I don't remember exactly when but certainly before the Coronavirus, I went to a presentation of a book by Chiara Valerio, with the author. For about an hour or what was the length of the evening, I listened to the author speak and I was wonderfully amazed at her ability to move from one reference to another, within an absolutely linear speech, without ever losing the track, without ever stammering. I would have liked to take note of all the references to interesting books to read but not even the time to take my cell phone to write it down, three other references had already passed that I would have liked to write down.
This book, especially the first essay, reminded me a lot of that evening... apart from the fact that everything is written here and therefore no problem to mark something. A couple of times I stopped to think "slow down!", I've read the whole book very slowly because otherwise I wouldn't have understood a word. Of all the interesting things she says, I need to go word for word to understand the concept otherwise I get lost. And considering that I have never studied mathematics at university level, I got lost in many things very easily. And this is the reason why I gave three stars, certainly not for a flaw of the author but for my own limitation: I simply didn't understand some things because for me many concepts sounded distant.
Maybe if she had more time and more pages to explain everything better, I would have understood it more.
Fortunately I have been following her for some time now so I already had a rough idea of her thought and I was able to enjoy this little book (not even a thousand pages) in which she expresses her thoughts on democracy and Italian politics in times of Coronavirus.
Recommended for those who take their time to read, so no fast-reading enthusiasts who wouldn't understand anything. See you at the next presentation, hopefully soon.
