Ho preso questo libro per la proposta di una pagina che seguo su Instagram, un progetto chiamato "Il giro del mondo in 12 letture". Ogni mese ognuno legge un libro ambientato in una zona diversa del mondo. Siccome mi rendo conto io stessa che, anche se inconsciamente, finisco sempre per leggere più o meno sempre scrittori europei o al massimo nord e sudamericani, tralasciando gli altri continenti, ho pensato fosse un modo di leggere al di fuori della mia comfort zone.
Primo esperimento quindi una lettura del Nord Africa ed eccomi qui a leggere questo libro di ricordi di viaggio.
Elias Canetti vive per un periodo a Marrakech e lì, gironzolando per questa città del Marocco, ne assapora la vita, ne sente gli odori, scopre i comportamenti.
Sono 13 capitoli, ognuno per un'esperienza diversa.
Devo ammettere che come primo approccio con questo scrittore non mi ha completamente conquistata. Canetti scrive benissimo e su questo non ci piove. Ma come credo immagino sia normale, non riesco a sentirmi completamente nel luogo, come potrebbe fare un autore autoctono, mentre durante questo libro continuavo a sentirmi come una turista che vede la città e ovviamente riporta le parti che maggiormente lo colpiscono, ma che sa che presto tornerà alla sua routine e quindi le vive come uno spettacolo colorato e folkloristico. Non sono riuscita ad entrare nel mondo del Marocco ma ne ho solo sentito l'odore della parte più superficiale.
Questo primo esperimento nel progetto mi insegna che la prossima volta sceglierò una voce interna al luogo che intendo scoprire.

I chose this book for the project of a page that I follow on Instagram, a project called "Around the world in 12 readings". Each month everyone reads a book set in a different area of the world. Since I myself realize that, even if unconsciously, I always end up reading more or less always European writers or at most North and South American writers, leaving out the other continents, I thought it was a way of reading outside my comfort zone.
First experiment then a reading of North Africa and here I am reading this book of travel memories.
Elias Canetti lived for a while in Marrakech and there, wandering around this Moroccan city, he savors its life, smells it, discovers its behaviors.
There are 13 chapters, each for a different experience.
I must admit that as a first approach to this writer he didn't completely conquer me. Canetti writes very well, but as I guess it's normal, I can't feel completely in the place, as a native author might do, while during this book I continued to feel like a tourist who sees the city and obviously brings back the parts that strike him most, but who knows that soon he will return to his routine and therefore live them as a colorful and folkloristic show. I was unable to enter the world of Morocco but I only smelled the most superficial part of it.
This first experiment in the project teaches me that next time I will choose an internal voice for the place I intend to discover.
