Ho sempre amato moltissimo Umberto Eco e sempre continuerò a farlo. Questo libro stava nel mio scaffale dei Da Leggere da anni e non so come un giorno l'ho preso e nei giorni successivi è come se mi fossi dedicata solo ed esclusivamente a quello. Catturata di nuovo dalla penna di Umberto Eco, come racconta lui, come usa lui la punteggiatura e le belle parole della nostra lingua, nessuno.
Giambattista Bodoni o meglio Yambo, libraio antiquario, si risveglia dopo un ictus e nella sua mente sono rimaste soprattutto citazioni e nozioni di letteratura, ma non per esempio le facce di moglie e figlie. In un processo di recupero della sua vita, torna nella casa dove è vissuto bambino e ripercorre tutta la sua educazione culturale, dai libri di scuola ai fumetti e canzonette, fino ad arrivare ai giornaletti durante la guerra.
E' un viaggio anche per il lettore quello in cui Eco ci accompagna, rivivendo la cultura popolare di quel periodo, interessante soprattutto il modo in cui i giornali e la musica affrontano e vivono lo scoppio della guerra e le diverse battaglie dell'Italia. Di più, come la stessa guerra irrompe in un paesino piemontese e lascia la sua impronta su un ragazzino che anni dopo, adulto in riabilitazione, rivivrà ancora quel momento.
Finale perfetto, ovviamente non lo svelo ma davvero, la chiusura perfetta per un libro del genere. Sembra che accada poco e niente nell'arco delle quasi 500 pagine, invece quello che riviviamo è una infanzia e una giovinezza intere.
Bellissimo libro, sia per la storia sia per il modo letterale in cui viene raccontato.

I have always loved Umberto Eco very much and I will always continue to do so. This book had been on my To Read list for years and I don't know how, one day I picked it up and in the following days I dedicated myself only and exclusively to that. Captured again by Umberto Eco, as he tells stories, how he uses the punctuation and the beautiful words of our language.
Giambattista Bodoni or better, Yambo, antiquarian bookseller, wakes up after a stroke and in his mind there are above all quotes and notions of literature, but not the faces of his wife and daughters. In a process of recovering his life, he returns to the house where he lived as a child and retraces his cultural education, from school books to comics and songs, up to the comic books during the war.
The journey in which Eco brings us is also a journey for the reader, reliving the popular culture of that period, especially interesting the way in which newspapers and music deal with and experience the outbreak of war and the various battles in Italy. Moreover, as the same war breaks out in a Piedmontese village and leaves its mark on a young boy who years later, an adult in rehabilitation, will relive that moment again.
Perfect ending, obviously I will not reveal it but really, the perfect closure for a book like this. It seems that little happens in the span of almost 500 pages, instead what we relive is a whole childhood and youth.
Beautiful book, both for the story and for the way it is told.
