Delusione.
La famiglia Melrose è sicuramente inglese e disfunzionali e per la prima parte ricca, e in mano ad un altro autore sarebbe sicuramente sembrata all'altezza delle mie aspettative.
Ma così... no.
Il romanzo è diviso in capitoli, in cui il narratore è volta per volta un diverso membro della famiglia. Le parti dei figli sono sinceramente noiose, molto più interessanti e sfaccettate quelle dei genitori, Patrick e Mary. Ma non riuscivo a non pensare a quanto lo stile di scrittura fosse esageratamente erudito e spocchioso, quasi che lo scrittore pensasse dovesse sforzarsi di sembrare naturalmente snob e altolocato, causando invece l'effetto di sembrare pretenzioso.
Pensavo di comprare l'intera collezione dei quattro romanzi della saga dei Melrose, ma ho cambiato idea. Torno a Fellowes. Almeno lui sa come fare.

I've started this book moved by my love for those stories about snob people and dysunctional rich English family.
Disappointment.
The Melrose family is for sure English and dysfunctional and for the first part rich, and I suppose in another author's hands would live up to my expectations.
But... no.
The novel is divided in chapters, the narrator is every time a different member of the family. The sons' parts are honestly boring, much more interesting and multifaceted the ones of the parents, Patrick and Mary. But I couldn't stop thinking at how much the writing style is excessively erudite and snotty, as the writer thinks he has to struggle to looks like naturally snob and high-level, but instead looking pretentious.
My idea was to buying the collection of Melrose saga's four novels, but I changed my mind. I come back to Fellowes. He knows how to do it.
