Racconta l'amore tra Achille e Patroclo e la storia della guerra di Troia da un punto di vista inedito: quello dello stesso Patroclo.
In prima persona, ci racconta la storia di come venne bandito dalla sua terra, come finì alla corte di re Peleo e come la sua vita si unì fino alla fine con quella di Achille, il aristos achaion, il migliore dei greci. Approfondiamo quello che è un rapporto che cambiò la guerra di Troia, che in qualche modo la portò al suo compimento.
E' un libro che ho divorato in due giorni, ma non credo dipenda dalla mia passione per la materia ma anche e soprattutto per lo stile narrativo molto accattivante e scorrevole. Devo ammettere che pur sapendo esattamente come finisce la storia, impossibile avere degli spoiler in questo caso, ci sono stati dei momenti in cui per la tensione mi sono dovuta fermare e far calare l'ansia, non prima di aver urlato ai protagonisti "non farlo!!". I grandi narratori sono capaci di portarti a fare questo, anche con storie universalmente note.
Ho dato quattro stelle invece di cinque perchè ci sono stati alcuni momenti in cui la scrittrice si rifà espressamente all'Iliade ma cambia completamente dei momenti che sono quasi stereotipi della mitologia greca... qui temerei lo spoiler anche se davvero, non fa. Non tolgono niente alla bellezza di questo libro ma sono stati degli attimi in cui la lettura e si ferma e mi chiedevo, "aspetta, ma non era così?"
Libro notevole e molto consigliato, i punti di vista nuovi riguardo a delle storie universali sono sempre una ricchezza.

As a great enthusiast of Greek mythology, I had to read this book which has been talked about a lot.
It tells the love between Achilles and Patroclus and the story of the Trojan war from a new point of view: that of Patroclus himself.
In the first person, he tells us the story of how he was banished from his land, how he ended up in the court of King Peleus and how his life was united till the end with Achilles, the aristos achaion, the best of the Greeks. Let's deepen what is a relationship that changed the Trojan War, which somehow brought it to its completion.
It is a book that I devoured in two days, but I don't think it depends on my passion for the subject but also and above all for the very captivating and fluent narrative style. I must admit that even though I know exactly how the story ends, it is impossible to have spoilers in this case, there were times when because the tension I had to stop and let the anxiety go down, not before screaming at the protagonists "don't do it!!". Great storytellers are capable of getting you to do this, even with universally known stories.
I gave four stars instead of five because there were some moments in which the writer expressly refers to the Iliad but completely changes some moments that are almost stereotypes of Greek mythology... here I would fear the spoiler even if it really isn't. They do not take anything away from the beauty of this book but they were moments in which I stopped the reading and wondered, "wait, wasn't it?"
Remarkable and highly recommended book, new points of view regarding universal stories are always a wealth.
