Dall'inizio, da quando era ancora "solo" senatore dell'Illinois, alla fine, a quando lascia il Campidoglio e si allontana in elicottero, dando un ultimo sguardo a quella che è stata la sua residenza per 8 anni.
Non sono americana, ma gli Stati Uniti hanno sempre avuto un ruolo importante nella mia vita. Parte della mia famiglia vive lì e Washington DC, beh, è stato amore a prima vista. Ecco perchè sento sempre fortemente il legame con quel grande paese al di là dell'Atlantico.
Ed ecco perchè questo libro è stato fonte di grande emozione e qualche lacrima. Rivedere quelle immagini, ricordare quanta speranza e fiducia nel futuro abbia portato la sua presidenza, mi ha emozionato e mi ha fatto per un attimo dimenticare il presente, in cui alla Casa Bianca vi è un Presidente completamente inadatto al ruolo e che intorna a sè semina solo follia e cattiveria.
Voglio tenere cara la lezione di Pete Souza e di Barack Obama, di quei straordinari otto anni. Sperando che ritornino presto.

To say that I read it in this case is perhaps misleading. The book is in fact a photographic book of the two terms of President of the United States, Barack Obama. There are captions to the photos and explanations for the most incisive photos, but for the rest, Pete Souza, the official photographer of Obama, rightly let his images talk.
From the beginning, since he was still "only" Senator of Illinois, until the end, when he leaves the Capitol by helicopter, giving a last look at what has been his residence for 8 years.
I'm not American, but the United States has always played an important role in my life. Part of my family lives there and Washington DC, well, it was love at first sight. That's why I always feel a strong connection with that great country beyond the Atlantic.
And this is why this book has been a source of great emotion and some tears. To review those images, to remember how much hope and trust in the future his presidency has brought, has moved me and made me forget for a moment the present, in which there is a President in the White House completely unfit for the role and who is spreading around only madness and malice.
I want to hold dear the lesson of Pete Souza and Barack Obama, of those extraordinary eight years. Hoping those times come back soon.
