Questo libro è diverso. E' meno barocco, più pulito, con meno aggettivi e avverbi. Leggevo in una sua intervista che in questo romanzo ha riversato il suo bisogno di tenerezza. E si sente.
Matteo Zevi è tornato in Italia dopo 16 anni in California, dove scappò da dei strozzini e da due mogli. Altre due vennero sposate negli Usa. Figli invece solo in Italia. Giorgio e Martina. A intervalli i due figli lo amano, Federica, la seconda moglie, sempre. E poi ci sono i Mogherini, di cui fa parte Lorenzo, il marito di Martina. Due famiglie, i Montecchi e i Capuleti, come a un certo punto vengono definite. Una di questo padre scavezzacollo con quattro mogli, l'altra ligia alle tradizioni e ai doveri di classe. Tutti bloccati nelle loro vite, nelle incomprensioni, nei problemi, girando in tondo come un cane che cerca di mordersi la coda. Poi a un certo punto succede qualcosa, qualcosa di più grande di loro. Ed è in questi momenti che la storia finisce e la vita si rimette in moto.
Ogni capitolo racconta un pezzo della vita di un diverso personaggio. Come caselle di un mosaico. Due famiglie, tante storie, diverse dinamiche spiegate dall'autore. Spiegate non solo queste due famiglie, ma tutte le nostre.
Un libro diverso, è vero. Ma sempre scritto con l'enorme talento di Alessandro Piperno.

From the first pages of "With the worst intentions", I fell in love with this man. His prose so full of adjectives and adverbs, not so much used words by the average Italian, eveything contributes to create a beauty that fills up all my senses. The next ones, "Persecution" and "Inseparables", wonderful readings.
This one is different. Less elaborate, more clean, less adjectives and adverbs. I was reading in a interview to him, in this novel he poured his need of tenderness. And you can feel it.
Matteo Zevi is back in Italy after 16 years in California, where he run away from shylocks and two wives. He married other two in USA. Children, those just in Italy. Giorgio and Martina. At irregular intervals these two love him, while Federica, the second Italian wife, always. And then the Mogherini's family, whose Lorenzo, Martina's husband, is part. Two families, the Montague's and the Capulet's, as a certain point they are called. One of this daredevil father with four wives, the other one duteous to traditions and duties. Everyone stuck in their lives, in misunderstandings, in problems, turning around as a dog who tries to bite its own tail. Then, abruptly, something happens, something bigger than them. And in this moment the story ends and life starts up again.
Every chapter is a piece of one character's life. As squares of a mosaic. Two families, many stories, several dynamics explained by the author. Ours families, too.
A different book, it's true. But still written with the huge talent of Alessandro Piperno.
